It'd been a while since Bakugou and he had gone out for lunch. Their schedules just never seemed to line up outside of work. Lately, they'd really only ever seen each other for missions. This was a nice change of pace. The outdoor cafe was quaint and relatively unfrequented, giving them some sort of privacy even while outside. Kirishima took another bite of the triple-meat sandwich he ordered. Although the conversation was relatively light, and very Bakugo ("I fought this loser villain", "how's the agency going?", "Deku better enjoy the time he has as number one because it won't be for long"), he could feel there was something more to it.
"Listen, Kirishima," Bakugo started, his tone shifting somewhat awkwardly, "I have, ehhhh, this girl I know-"
Interest. Piqued. Kirishima just about choked.
"A girlfriend Bakugou?? Pro-hero Dynamite finally settling down???" Kirishima laughed, leaning in, keen to hear what Bakugo had to say.
"Nah, nothin' like that, hair-for-brains-"
"Oooooh, tryin' t'set me up then? I can't say I'm opposed, but you know what my schedule looks like. But a pretty lady- I might be able to make it wo-"
"Would ya' let me finish? Dammit, still as scatterbrained as ever. Look, there's this girl I met during my early years as a pro. She was in the hero course at UA a couple years below us- Y/firstn Y/lastn-"
"Sorry, name doesn't really ring a bell. Where does she work now? Her pro-hero name?"
Bakugou batted away the question, "Nah, she never graduated. Transferred out of the hero program. But that's why I'm tryin' t'bring her up. Her quirk's actually not so terrible-"
"Didn't graduate? What happe-"
"Not my place to say. Long story short- some shit went down with the League of Villains, she got hurt and wasn't able to stay in the program. She was pretty damn decent before everything went down. I don't know. I finally convinced her to try and get a job working close to some pros. I think it'd be, y'know, good for her or something."
Was he hearing this right? Bakugo was calling in a favor and nearly complimenting someone? Sure, the Katsuki he knew now was more mature and even tempered than the one he knew back in highschool, even so Kirishima was caught off guard.
"So you want to see if I can hire her? I'm sure I can do it, but why me? You have your own agency too," Kirishima replied cautiously.
Bakugo's expression darkened.
"She doesn't like fire. It'd be stupid to have her around with my explosions going off. 'Sides, her quirk is a reinforcement type like yours. And," He averted his gaze and dropped his voice, "You're... good with people."
Kirishima couldn't stop the smile that crept onto his face.
"Alright, alright, you've buttered me up enough. I can hire her on, if its enough to make the great King Explosion Murder compliment me then it must be important," Kirishima teased, snickering under his breath.
Bakugo huffed and sank down into his seat, "I don't have time for small fry at my agency. If I hear that anything's off, I'll come down there and kill you myself. I've worked too damn hard getting her this far for it to all go to waste, shitty hair."
He laughed, "No worries, Bakugou! Do you really think I'd let something happen to my best friend's little project? What type of hero would I be?"
Kirishima nudged the temperamental hero, Bakugo doubled down on his salty expression.
"I'm serious. You'll need to be careful with her. She can take a lot, but-"
His earpiece lit up, Bakugo's expression soured.
"Damn villains won't even let me have lunch in peace. Forget what I said. Just keep an eye on her. I'll send her resume over."
Kirishima nodded, waving goodbye as Dynamite blasted himself into flight. Though, he was not entirely satisfied with the amount of information Katsuki let on. Sure, he wasn't one to pry, but it sure sounded like Bakugo was hoping for something more than just a job as a receptionist or secretary or something. Kirishima leaned back, watching Bakugo's trail of explosions quickly disappear.
He sure didn't try to hide how important this was to him, though Katsuki wasn't exactly one for subtlety. He mulled over the situation. If this girl was enough for Bakugo to stay interested in for so long, there must have been something significant going on. It wasn't all that uncommon for students to drop out of the hero course, there were always 1 or 2 every few years. Usually injuries weren't the cause, with the school's access to accelerated healing quirks and top-notch medical facilities. The school's reach with resources and extensive list of alumni usually meant there was something they could do for just about anything. There were exceptions, but those were so remarkable and devastating that word spread all too quickly. They were reminders of the stark reality that was hero work. It was dangerous and the students were just kids.
Regardless of the situation, Kirishima's interest had been successfully captured. He was always happy to help UA students and alumni, usually it was the school or smaller pros that reached out. His spot at #7 made him the recipient of a lot of solicitation, but it was never an issue. Now, Bakugo? That's a first.

She'd passed out. Dammit. Kirishima could see it coming. Her words were somewhat slurred, skin pale, and it didn't seem like she was really looking at him. More like through him. Luckily, he'd caught the unconscious girl before she hit the ground.
They were lucky about a lot of things, he thought bitterly as he waved over the medics.
Lucky her quirk worked.
Lucky she had a quirk at all, really.
Lucky reacted so fast.
Lucky the brute hadn't decided to go in for a second blow against the only thing he didn't break.
He shuddered at the thought. One of his employees and a fan being killed right in the middle of his own hero agency. Kirishima wasn't sure he'd be able to live with the thought.
The yelling of the police and chatter of the newly gathered crowd buzzed at the back of his mind. The perimeter set up by the police was barely enough to contain some overly enthusiastic members of the public, Red Riot waved at the crowd.
"No need to worry! We have everything under control!"
The crowd bustled in excitement, only to be pushed back again by police. He kept a smile plastered onto his face, part of being a hero was being a source of calm and reassurance. Sometimes, he hated it.
He watched the ambulance carefully, from a distance. He knew the medics likely wouldn't reveal too much information and he didn't want to get in the way of their work. Kirishima could see Y/N moving, but he didn't dare make any assumptions. That was, not until she offered a small wave in his direction.
Damn. She really was something.
Years out of training, possibly injured, and she'd not only saved two people but kept herself relatively unscathed?
He offered two big thumbs-ups and was unable to contain the massive smile that spread across his face.
Kirishima was suddenly sure of what Bakugo had seen. He was going to get her out of retirement and working as a pro, and he wasn't going to take no for an answer.
