????: Throwback Thursday Blues

Zephyr pulled at his bonds, struggling to get himself upright again from his face-down position on the ground. Arching and using his face to push himself up, he rolled into a sitting position to find that similar fates had befallen the Abyss kids around him, including Envy. Each one was bound wrist and ankles by the same gold, slightly flaming rope, all equally baffled by the sudden bondage. As the predicament set in, each of the Sins' faces slowly fell into this look of despair and terror before rejection. Lust began hyperventilating, flailing and pulling at her ties frantically. She looked about ready to cry as she floundered about, getting dust all over her skirt and jacket in the process. Gluttony looked over at her, his gaze filled with both worry and fear of something; it seemed like that something was keeping him from helping his terrified sister. Wrath sat stiff and rigid as a board, glaring daggers at Zephyr from his position a few yards away, his gaze seeming to promise death as soon as he was released. And Envy, oh god Envy, looked like she had just watched a murder take place. She was white as a sheet and her green eyes were wide as an owl's; Zephyr could swear he could see her shaking from where he sat, but did not want to admit it. If Envy was this scared, then hell, he should be wetting himself in terror at this point.

With a whoosh, a ring of gold flames appeared on the ground a short distance from the group, causing the frantic Lust to freeze and the ever-seething Wrath to jump, almost falling over. Envy and Gluttony exchanged equal looks of "Well, nice knowing you." before Zephyr moved his eyes from the Sins and Envy to look at the glowing circle. A vibrant gold light escaped it and began to form the shape of two people within the  confines of its light; one was a bit taller than the other and they were definitely not kids. Zephyr was almost mesmerized by the sight and if not for Envy's screaming he might have remained there, transfixed, until whatever was coming arrived.

"PRIDE RUN!" came a desperate plea from Envy, who now had an expression of pure fear on her young features. "YOU HAVE TO LEAVE BEFORE GREED AND SLOTH GET HERE!!"

That got his attention. Greed? Sloth? Weren't those the heads of the Abyss family and the parents to the Sins and Envy? What were they doing here? Zephyr kept his gaze on the forming beings, not wanting to miss a thing for some reason he could not place.

"Greed and Sloth? Aren't they you guys' parents or something?" He called back, now having to squint at the brightness. Then it clicked. This is what got them so freaked out; their parents were coming to the arena. The two most powerful Walkers were coming to the arena; and something told Zephyr they were not here for the cotton can-doo. The young boy immediately turned and began to activate his bond with Abyss, blue flames sparking with the gold on his wrists. He had to free Envy and get the hell out of dodge before they showed up and WREKT everything.

He tore his gaze free and looked at Envy, preparing to yell his plan at her. Only he was met with something he did not expect: Envy was crying.

The tough, rough, tomboy he had come to love was crying.

Sparse tears ran down her cheeks and plopped into the dirt, pooling in little puddles of mud. Zephyr was almost outraged, but instead all he felt was shock. Shock at how utterly hopeless and distressed his sister looked. Her hair had fallen into her face again, like it always did, but this time she could not brush it away, leaving it to dangle over her desperate expression.

Envy silently and mentally cursed herself for how worried and weak she felt, but could not keep back the rush of emotions; her brother did not know just how much danger he was in simply by sitting there. Her parents would murder him on sight because he was Pride; the most deadly of the seven sins. She knew this and wanted to get him out of here; wanted to whisk him away like she had before and save him again. But she couldn't; not while she was bound and her flames sealed by the bindings. Hell, at this point she couldn't even save herself, let alone her younger brother. A thought crossed her mind, one that depicted her brother getting burned painfully to ash by Greed while she helplessly watched, and she quickly shook her head, banishing the thought to the back of her mind. It was not gone for long, however, as worse ones took its place; each more gruesome than the last. Her vision blurred as tears clouded her view of her innocent looking brother who sat a a large ways from her and her other siblings.

Then, she saw the blue flames licking at her brother's ensnared wrist and the rapid rising and falling of his bony shoulders with each breath he took. An idea formed in her mind and she felt hope rise up in her chest. This could work. She could save her brother; or, more so, he could save himself. But, she would not be going with him. Not this time. Propping herself up, Envy managed to get on her knees and shout to her brother, who had burned halfway through the rope.

"PRIDE!" she shouted, praying he hadn't fallen into one of his Abyss-induced trances and practically sighing with relief when he looked up suddenly with a startled look on his face, "PRIDE, YOU HAVE TO GO INTO THE ABYSS RIGHT NOW! DON'T ASK WHY JUST gO!" her voice cracked at the end, but she held his turquoise gaze solidly.
