Vaati's Palace was tearing itself apart all around them at such a rate it was difficult to keep up with. Every step they took they risked falling through the floor, and every level was worse than the last. Whatever powers Vaati had used to conjure this place were diminishing, but they could tell that Vaati himself was growing stronger. His palace only crumbled because he had shifted his focus. He no longer had a need for this place, and so he was letting it go.

But that wasn't going to stop them, not this time. They'd all agreed to put everything aside at last, that no matter what they had to do, they would do it. This time, no matter what, Vaati's reign would end.

He was not making it off this island!

So jumping over lava pool after lava pool, scaling walls, and ducking smoke, the four heroes arrived again at the final door of the palace. Roger, Paul, and Barry all remembered the end of their last adventure, with the last Link and Ezlo. The remembered fighting Vaati over and over, each time believing him finally defeated, but this time... This felt different.

It was much more final than any other time. Not because they were certain for sure that they could win, but because one way or another this would simply be the final fight. Either the heroes would win, or Vaati would.

As they came to the door that would take them to the platform at the top of the palace, they all paused to draw their swords and prepare themselves.

"Are we ready?" Link asked, pressing his hand to the door.

The others nodded.

"Let's do this," Roger said.

"We've beaten him before," Barry added.

"We'll beat him again," Paul agreed.

"No matter how many times, right?" Link asked. "That was your promise to your Link."

Paul nodded. "You're more like him than you give yourself credit for, you know. And not just because you wear green."

"He wore green?" Link mused, saying this quiet enough that the others couldn't hear.

There was no more stalling, no more waiting. Link pushed open the door.

As they stepped out onto the platform... Vaati already stood waiting for them at the end of the platform, staring down at the island... And the land of Hyrule across the sea. Even here, the columns cracked and fell, and the ground shook. The edges of the platform dissipated into light as the rest f the palace was slowly erased.

"We've reached the final battle," Vaati chuckled. "It has been fun, I must admit, but I've no use for you children any longer."

"You're not getting away this time," Link growled, brandishing his blade. "This time, we'll beat you once and for all!"
