Here Come the Tapes

"Qibli! Qibli!!!" Winter shot through the halls of Jade Mountain Academy, excited because FINALLY his test scores came back and YES!!! they were 100!!!

He knew this wasn't really like him to be so excited. When he was younger, he was so much uncaring. Then he met these people around him - they lit him up. Rebuilt the cracked basin and rekindled the fire of hope and life in him.

He would've probably wasted away without these people.

When he ran into the classroom, he crashed into Moon. Her black eyeliner was wobbly, and multiple long gray streaks discolored her cheeks. 

"Moon! What - what happened?!" he put his hand on her shoulder. "What is it?"

Then he noticed Kinkajou - was that Kinkajou? Her usual bright clothing was switched for a gigantic black jacket, covering her down to her knees, hood around her face. She wore saggy gray pants. Her hair was down, instead of the normal ponytail or braid or double braid or bun or something creative with bows.

Winter's hand holding the paper slowly dropped. "What is it? Tell me! Where's Qibli?"

Kinkajou's eyes widened, tears filling them. "He's..." the word seemed to hard for her to say. 

Icicle walked by. "He killed himself, idiot." she sneered.

Winter felt his heart slam in his chest, the paper floating to the floor.

"Please tell me this is some elaborate not very funny joke and Qibli will jump out from behind something to scare me." it was obvious. No. It was not a joke, it was very real.

The next day it was announced to the whole school. Qibli had been found dead in his room, a box of pills in his hand. Empty. When his blood was tested, traces of things from the pills had been found in it. 

It was official. Qibli was gone.

Until a month later. 

He didn't know how the box ended up at his doorway. He didn't know how they had timed it so nobody was home. All he knew was that he was one of them, one of the 13 who had killed. Killed Qibli.

The ancient walkman fit perfectly into his pocket, and he set Tape A, side 1, into it.
