One Shots: Miraculous

(A/N: imagine this was before Sass came and 'saved the day'. this is based on the episode ephemeral, where adrien is akumatized and hawkmoth has his hands on both of the miraculous and is creating a world where emilie is alive.)

Marinette gasped as pink rays of light shone beyond the horizon. Soon, she knew, the world would end, and Shadowmoth would win.

She hoped desperately that Luka had understood the message she had sent him and that he was able to go back in time. There were many flaws in this plan, but all she could do now was hope.

She glanced painfully at the figure crouched at the back. It was Ephemeral, the akumatized villain that was previously Adrien. She crawled towards him, wincing. Her body ebbed with pain and she only managed to reach him by summoning all of the remaining energy that was left in her.

But as she neared him, she did not see the usual smile of pride that came with the akumatized villain, instead his masked face was expressionless, but from his empty eyes leaked a single, desperate tear.

"Adrien, Adrien! It's me, Marinette! Wake up! Please! Wake up!" She sobbed violently into his shoulder. She could not bear to witness the world end without her lover by her side.

Yet Ephemeral sat motionless still, not even turning his head to acknowledge her presence or her words. "Adrien!" She screamed again. The light outside was brightening, and she knew that she did not have much time left before Sass would reverse the time.

Desperately, she glanced around the room, searching for something-anything that would wake Adrien from his villainous state. Suddenly, she spied something glinting from the doorway. Cautiously, she neared it and found a ring.

Shadowmoth must have dropped it, she thought. But what could a ring possibly do to make Adrien normal again?

A sudden dark thought entered her mind. She gulped and blinked back tears. No, she thought. Adrien is human, surely he can't? But a second thought interrupted the first- his love for her was true, and if it weren't for the ring, he would have shaken off his akumatization.

Carefully, she placed the ring in Ephemeral's outstretched hand. "Take it," she said, "for once, decide for yourself." As his hands closed around the ring, Ephemeral's eyes widened. He looked at Marinette, his best friend, his lover and his ladybug. He felt the strength within him at last.

With a boom, he broke free of hawkmoth's clutches, and for a second, the light seepnig through the windows started to dim.

"Adrien!" cried Marinette, collapsing in his arms. "W-what happened? Where's Shadowmoth?" He looked at her and then gasped. "Marinette! Your miraculous! Where are they?"

Marinette smiled sadly through her tears. "It seems now we have lost, Adrien. There is nothing we can do, for our memories will be erased as soon as Sass goes back in time to reverse the damage."

Adrien's eyes widened, but he held her more closely, and pressed his head against hers. "I wish we could be happy together, but we must never find out ever again. It's too dangerous."

Marinette looked into his eyes. "We will one day kitty."

A sudden green flash broke through the pink strands of light outside and neared them.

"This is it M'Lady," he said tenderly, reaching out for her hand."

Marinette held her hand in his and whispered as the light spread through their bodies, and as their minds slowly cleared.

"I love you, Adrien."

(A/N: I AM SO SO SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING OMGGG. I've just been really stressed lately so idk. I'll try to update at least once a week. also i liked ephemeral but i also didn't??? Its just that you would have thought that maybe they could just reveal themselves finally for good but NO because hawkdaddy has other plans to resuscitate his dead wife.
