* Annabeth's POV. *As I ran over to the living room, I looked around to spot my mom. Panicking, I zipped my eyes across the room, begging to the gods to keep my mom safe. Not long after, I caught a glimpse of my mom lying lifeless on the floor.
" M-mom,"I managed as I rushed over to her side. " M-mom, are you-"
I broke into a sob. How couldn't I? My mom was the only caring family member I had left! Well, I'm not saying that my uncles and aunties were mean or anything, but I've never met them before and apparently, they stopped contacting my mom ever since she left their rich household. My mom wanted to be a hair stylist but of course, her entire family disagreed. Nevertheless, she left to fulfill her dream, which infuriated her parents even more.
" M-m-mom, "I called out again as I tried to lift her onto our rustic couch.
Slowly, her eyes fluttered open as I sighed with relief.
"A-are you okay,"I stuttered as I helped my mom sit up.
" Yes my dear. I just feel nauseous. I'm fine,"my mom's voice quavered.
" What happened?" I blinked.
"Nothing, I just tripped over a stool,"my mom said softly.
" O-okay,"I replied with concern.
Suddenly, a deafening bang on the door shattered the eery silence, almost making me jump. Frightened and astonished, I turned around and looked at my mom. Immediately, she turned away, looking at at her feet solemnly.
" M-mom?" I tilted my head. " Should I open the door?"
A few seconds of silence passed by,"No. Whatever you do, do not open the door. Understood? "
I nodded, still confused of what was happening. " Yup, got it."
However, as I walked away to get my homework, the loud banging continued.
"Open up!"
I shivered as I walked back. As I continued to walk towards the stairs I glanced at my mom. Seriously! Banging the door continuously at 4 pm won't do anyone any good! Jeez! I wanted to yell at whoever was banging on the door, really. But it's better safe than sorry.
"Just ignore it,"I muttered to myself as I took a deep breath.
One minute....Two minutes.....Threes minutes of banging.
" I'll go get the door,"my mom sighed.
" But I thought you said not to open the door?"I looked confused.
"It's for your good,"my mom signed. " Now listen, you might not see me anytime soon....but I want you to remember this one thing. You have the power to change the world."
I nodded as crystal clear tears dripped down my face. I have the power to change the world? Although I didn't know back then, my mom was not just trying to cheer me up. She meant it literally! "A-are you sure? You don't have to-"
My mom broke into my sentence. " No, I must. Now go upstairs! Quickly! "
A mash up of emotions filled up my mind. Sadness, confusion, shock fill my head. Nevertheless, I turned around not daring to look back.
" S-s-sorry mom!" I ran upstairs.
