The same drab tiled floors, muted color schemes in bland institutional colors, the same bleak undercurrent of loss and sadness, palpable beneath the thin façade of hospitality and welcome-hospitals were always the same.
You cast a quick peek to your left, noticing the lone clerk hunched over a computer screen and two half-drunk patients. A television was nestled in one of the corners, the volume cranked down low and CNN was broadcasting.
You strolled down the passage big enough to fit two stretchers, securing your backpack and mentally squaring your shoulders. - You walked through the sitting area quietly, observing a man in khaki shorts whine to what appeared to be his wife. "And I was telling that knucklehead-"
You collided with someone because you were oblivious to your surroundings; nevertheless, they grasped your waist before you could fall.
As you rubbed the aching region on your head, you groaned in anguish. "Doctor Parker, are you all right?" A familiar voice inquired. Your eyes widened as you raised your gaze to the male. No way, you reasoned, Armin was the one who had apprehended you.
"Never better," you gave a bitter laugh, fixing your backpack. As you smoothed down your outfit, Armin stifled his laugh, which made you cock your eyebrow at him. "What's so funny?"
He gestured to the growing bruise, which was turning purplish. "Yeah-Yeah, laugh it up," you grumbled.
Armin kept laughing, and you couldn't help but stare. His hair bounced, his lovely smile occupied half of his face, and his dimples abound. Even though Armin was always depressed, it all appeared to vanish at this moment.
You grinned a little, knowing you'd made him smile at least once since he'd arrived.
As you readjusted your backpack on your shoulders, you playfully pulled Armin's shirt bringing him alongside you. He was taken aback by your move, but shook it aside and smiled shyly. You craned your neck to catch a sight of Armin, who appeared to be in good spirits. You were curious as to what had made him joyful today.
"Greetings, Dr. Parker! It's great to see you again today." Erwin Smith, your boss, stated. When he saw Armin standing alongside you, he raised his brow. "And who is this?"
