Bright rays of orange gently glistened in through the gap in the curtains of your bedroom, or what was formally your bedroom. Throughout the past few months, your bedroom had transformed into a makeshift dumping ground, the floor littered with weeks worth of old rubbish, takeout boxes and clothes. Unfortunately, your already poor mental state had been steadily declining and with no reason why, there was no solution to feeling better.Although you had been living at the maze for almost two years now and are very close to all of the people who reside there, you have been isolating yourself from them all, not wanting to worry them with how low you are, which of course, made them feel even more worried.
The bright light that invaded your room had forced your eyes open, rudely awaking you from the sleep you had found so difficult to achieve the night before. Your once dark room had been transformed with a harsh, bright glow, illuminating what was once where you lived. Among the dust and clutter that lined your bedside table was a rectangular silver photo frame, the only thing in your room that brought happiness to you anymore. You picked it up. Behind the glass layer was a photograph containing a picture of you, along with your friends.
You looked happy for once, standing in front of the maze you lived near. On the far left was Rattler, who is one of your closest friends, which was extremely unlike them, since they are normally really hostile to the majority of the others. Even though your reasoning seemed shallow, you reckoned it was because the two of you are both non-binary, but it is always nice to have someone who you can relate to! They had their usual pissed- off look on their face in the photo, but if you would look closer it was obviously that they were happy in that moment.
Cablecrow was perched on top of a makeshift pole which the group had put up for the special occasion and was placed next to Rattler. As usual, he seemed in a good mood, extending his wired hook over to a pole in the distance as if to try and wrap his arm around everyone. Standing next to him was you! Although you were a lot smaller then any of the other scarecrows, due to the long pole Cablecrow was positioned on, he seemed to be three time taller then you, who seemed happy for once.
Standing closer to you then anyone else was Zardy, his right arm wrapped loosely around your waist in an attempt to keep you closer to him, which appeared to be working, with your head resting upon the side of his chest, since you were so short compared to him. Both of you had smiles plastered on your faces, with a light blush spread across yours. As much as you hated to admit it, a big reason you had been avoiding everyone was because of your feelings towards him. It had been affecting you in many ways and since you were constantly an embarrassed wreck around him, you felt avoidance was the best tactic.
Standing next to Zardy was his younger, yet slightly taller brother, Pumpkin Jack, who had a Pumpkin crawler cradled in his arms. All of the pumpkin crawlers in the maze basically acted like his pets and Jack treated them as such, attacking anyone who touched them. During your time living here, Jack had become like a younger brother to you and even though he could be annoying at times, he was probably the nicest to you out of everyone and was the funnest of the lot.
Finally, on the far end was Brute, who didn't really have a change in his expression, due to his face being covered by his hood, though he didn't have his hammer, so you guessed he wasn't hostile at this point in time. Since Brute didn't speak, communication between the two of you had always been a little difficult, but you did get along perfectly well.
