At Katagiri Senior High School, Kyouko Hori greets her friend Yuki Yoshikawa before their class starts. Yuki asks if she could copy her English notes, and Kyouko hands over her notebook while scolding her friend for forgetting to do her translations. While the two chat about Yuki's friend requesting Kyouko's number, Kyouko accidentally knocks her eraser off the desk. Izumi Miyamura, who is passing by, picks it up and returns it to her.

Kyouko and Yuki watch Izumi head to his desk, and Yuki comments on his gloomy aura. They both imagine Izumi as an otaku, and Kyouko conjures a mental image of him playing with a figurine. Yuki moves on from the subject and invites Kyouko to karaoke. She turns down the offer, much to Yuki's disappoint.

After Kyouko bids farewell to Yuki and her friends, she heads home and immediately changes clothes and begins cleaning the house. As she goes to pick up her younger brother, Souta Hori, Kyouko internally comments on her parents' busy lives, which leaves her with the daily responsibility of taking care of Souta and no time to spend with friends, a side of her that she did not want others knowing about.

One day, as Kyouko mans the house, Souta returns home and calls out to his sister. Kyouko goes to greet him, but the sight of his bleeding nose shocks her and she pesters him over what happened. A young man excuses himself and states that he will take his leave, given that Souta seems to be alright. Souta tugs at his shirt while asking him to stay and Kyouko, apologetic over not noticing him earlier, also requests that he remains for a bit as a thank-you for helping Souta.

Over tea, Kyouko thanks the man and notices his many piercings. The man describes how Souta was scared by a dog which resulted in him falling and thus receiving his bloody nose. He comments on Souta being quite smart, having told him his name and address with ease, though Kyouko tries to refute this and states Souta is rather careless. He continues on and praises Kyouko for managing the house on her own, surprising her. Seeing her reaction, the man attempts to verify her identity by stating her class, and Kyouko confirms the fact but shakingly asks if he also goes to her school. He reveals that he is Izumi Miyamura, and Kyouko remembers the vastly different Izumi she knows from their class.

The next day at school, Kyouko distressingly tries to see how the Izumi she knows inside of class versus outside of class are the same. She realizes that moreover, Izumi saw her hidden side and without makeup, which causes her further agony. However, she decides to approach him during class and they go outside to talk, where she invites Izumi to come over to her house again as per Souta's request. Surprised, Izumi agrees and plans to bring a picture book for Souta and reveals he expected Kyouko to avoid him after the events of the previous day. Confused, Kyouko asks him why she would do so; even though he had an odd side to him, the two of them weren't much different in that they both have hidden sides. Hearing Kyouko's words, Izumi blushes and smiles. Seeing his unexpected smile, Kyouko comments that Izumi should take off his glasses and tie his hair up like when they met, but he tells her his piercings would show if he did. Kyouko asks about Izumi's piercing count, and he reveals that he has nine: four on each ear, and one on his lip, garnering a comment from Kyouko that he has too many.

As Izumi begins regularly visiting her house, Kyouko learns that he isn't an otaku, his family owns a bakery, his piercings were done by himself when he was in junior high, and that his studying ability wasn't very good, aside from perfect scores in health and physical education. Izumi compliments Kyouko's grades upon seeing them, and Kyouko reprimands him for laughing when she teases Souta for not understanding the basics of their high school studies, given that Izumi himself has bad grades and a poor understanding of the basics.

Kyouko picks up a magazine and Izumi comments on the ad she is reading, describing a sale on eggs. As Izumi looks over her shoulder, Kyouko sees his face up close and thinks about how long his lower eyelashes are. Izumi catches her staring and calls out to her, snapping her out of her thoughts. She returns back to the ad and happily expresses that as long as no unexpected meeting comes up, she will attend the sale.

However, the next day, a sudden student council meeting is announced, forcing Kyouko to stay after school and past the sale. Undeterred, she immediately texts Izumi to attend the sale for her as she rushes to the meeting, much to his dismay. With twenty minutes to make it, Izumi runs and takes off his blazer and glasses before rushing to jump over the fence. As he jumps, he sees Yuki and lands in front of her, apologizes, and runs off, leaving a confused Yuki to watch him.

Back at the house, an apologetic Kyouko thanks the exhausted Izumi for his help with the errand. Izumi tells her about his accidental encounter with Yuki while in his outside appearance, which causes Kyouko to comment on how she doesn't want others besides her knowing about his hidden side. Izumi states that he feels the same about others seeing Kyouko's hidden side, and that he wants the time he spends with her while she shows that side to himself only. This earns him an embarrassed reaction from Kyouko as she shoves his cold drink into his face and berates him for saying something so bold. Unfazed, Izumi happily states how an angry Kyouko is cute. Kyouko internally monologues how the two of them have ended up sharing their other selves with each other.
