On a nice fall day a little baby's cry is heard through the field. The thing is is that it wasnt from the house it was from the shack. On this day a baby was born into slavery.She named him james The mother worked hard for her boy when the boy grew up alittle more he started working. He was brought into the house to help the house slaves and when he grew up alittle more he started to learn how to cook. he got quite good. when he was about 11 years of age he was sold to another plantation.
When he got there he started work in the field. He met a nice girl who was sent there from louisiana. She was pretty but she was a house slave. When the first opportunity James asked to prove himself as a cook. The master felt good that day and decided fine why not. James went into the kitchen and started cooking for dinner and the smell of the food was so divine. When he got done he was brought in to be talked to about it. The master told him that during guest visits he would be the cook. which was every other day. So every other day he got to see her.
They would talk when all the slaves slept in the shack. The next day James was caught eating an apple. He was whipped and whipped and it left scars all across his back and his sides. After this punishment he was put in the box. It was a giant metal box left out in the sun. ou would be put in it and they would leave you in there and you would Get hot really fast and yoou would sweat. When all this was over he didnt dare do anything wrong and then he decided and talked to his partner into running away with him. It wasn't an easy task she wasn't whipped, she had a pretty good job. She didn't want to go until James showed her his scars.
They were going to run to the north so they could be freed from slavery. The two of them waited a few days before they ran. When that day came they stole food from the kitchen and headed off. They got to About the edge of the plantation before anyone noticed that but the sound of the dogs and the screaming were not far behind. They started running and moving around the brush of the woods. the dogs got closer. James told her to keep running and that when you get to the north stay up there and fight for our freedom.
She didnt want to leave him but she knew that he wanted her safety. She ran off and he stayed behind and he got caught but by the time they caught him she was already gone. When the brought him back to the plantation he was branded with an R for Run away. He was put back on the field and thats where he stayed. He wasn't sad or mad he was happy that long ago he saved her from this place.
