So the other day in English, my teacher asked my class to do a 'word association' mind map using the word valentine. When she asked for some responses, people were saying things like February, love, flowers, cards .... you get the picture. However when it was my turn, I went the COMPLETE opposite way and said ...... disappointment - because lets face it, unless your with someone or you're lucky, your Valentines day is pretty much summed up in this 1 word (or is that just me)! So yeah, everyone laughed and my teacher was like 'No, that's a really good answer, that's what I was looking for'. She then continued to talk about people either recieving presents from parents/family members or not getting any at all.
I so have not recieved a present from my mother that was a balloon and a ladybug teddy that said 'lovebug'..... Ok ,maybe when i was 7.
But to be fair, Valentines day is pretty cruel to the singltons of society. Like when your at school and all your friends or popular girls get unexpected presents and I'm just like 'well I'm gonna treat myself tonight with an episode of Breaking Bad and binge eating ... YAYY!'. God that was a fun date. I think that if I was in a relationship on Valentines day (haha good one Brooke), then I wouldnt be so sour about it , but I'm not and that makes me kinda sad. But honestly, some presents are just so 'expected' now. Like roses or chocolates. And for the love of God, why do people think its a good idea to get someone a plastic rose... REALLY? I know its the thought that counts and everything, but you could have spend and extra 20p and bought a real one. I do understand that there is only so many spontanious, cheap gifts or suprises you can get, I know. To me there's just something about a rose that's not special anymore because it's a common present to get. Yeah I would be greatful if I got just one, but its not unique or special to that relationship or person. Maybe try a cheap trip somewhere (like the beach... ?) or do that balloon thing where you write down different things you like about that person and tye them to balloons. I dont know, just something that isnt what your best mate's doing or the guy/girl down the road.
