Jello in a balloon

The summer of 1970 started out like any other summer. School ended and we had three months of freedom ahead of us. But that year freedom wasn't enough, we wanted independence, a place to call our own. That's why we decided to by the treehouse, and the quest to earn the money was our summer goal.

The group of friends sprint to their bikes, that we parked in front of Samantha's house. Flora swings her leg over the other side of her bike, she kicks the kickstand and was off.

"Hey guys...wait up!" Chrissy says trailing behind the group. "Hurry up!" Flora laughs and stops peddling for a second so her friend could catch up.

Flora was a 13 year old girl, she was sadly going to her last year of junior high next year. Though she had her friends for the journey aswell.

She was considered an athlete and her specialty was softball. She and Roberta had their fare share of being on the same team and playing together, but Flora was just a little better.

She wasn't as girly as the rest, but she wasn't exactly a tomboy. She had girly interests aswell, but mainly stuck to more "tomboy" things.

This year she was starting to grow through puberty, as the rest of them were and her teenage hormones kicked in. So the only thing she thought about other than sports were boys and adventure. She was always so curious about the outside world.

She thought she could change the world in a way, but she quickly realized she could only change a couple of people. But she was ok with that.

Flora grew up with her Aunt, as an only child. She adopted her because her parents fled to some vacation place.

A group of boys came strolling down the street. They were all brothers and the girl group called them by their last names. "The wormers"

Like us, the wormers also had a summer goal, it was to make our lives miserable. They were the enemy.

"Hey wormy wormers", Roberta growls at the boys and Flora cracks her knuckles from behind her. "Now!" Scott yells and Flora's eyes widen.

The boys throw balloons filled with some kind of green slime in them. All Flora heard were the screams of her best friends.

As Scott throws one at her, Flora catchers it and pitches it at his head. He ducks and it hits the street and he grins.

"Nice try, super girl", he taunts and Flora groans as she then smells her arm that had the slime on it.

"Guys", Flora laughs. "It's jello!" But none of them heard her. Flora glares at the boys. "go! Go! Go!" Scott yells to his brothers as they ride off on their bikes.

Roberta chases after Scott and he looks back and at her laughs. Roberta trips and falls to the ground.

"Roberta are you ok!" Flora asks then turns the to the boys who were riding away. "We owe you wormers! And we always pay our dept!" Flora yells at them and Scott turns back and smirks.

"Yeah we're really afraid of a bunch of girls", Scott yells back sarcastically. "Yeah you should be!" Flora says grabbing Roberta's hand and leading her to their group of friends.

The boys ride off into the distance, people walking down the street and getting in their cars to go to work, turn at the scene.

"Who are you looking at! Go to work!" Flora says to a man standing watching the scene go by, with a briefcase in his hand.
