It was only after an hour did Edlyn find the strength to Apparate. She didn't go back home, didn't go to Hogwarts. She decided to visit a spot where her family had gone once for a holiday. Edlyn had set out alone on the beach and the dunes. She had gotten lost. She had gone up to the cliffs and looked out down to the beach and found the little spots her family made on the sands. She had a clear sight of the path she had to take to go back safely.
With the crushing of the waves far bellow her feet, she realized she was alone. Alone in this world. There was only her body, her soul -if she ever had one-, the cliff, the ocean, the sky. She had never build a proper friendship with Regulus, nor Barty, but that wasn't a surprise. What had they been? Lovers? Comrades? Or only people trying to find a sense in this mess of a world. They had actually barely known each other, and yet. Loosing them had felt like the world crumbling apart. But the world was still there. The cliff, the ocean, the sky. Everything was intact. Only her was shattered.
She was alone. Regulus had broken his promise.
"Alright. Let's do that." he had said, smiling to her worrying eyes.
"Promise me." she had whispered.
"I promise." he had replied.
Was he lying back then, and Edlyn had been so deep in her hope that she hadn't let herself acknowledge it? Or had he decided it was impossible in between those few days? He had so suddenly disappeared. What had happened? Did it matter?
Had they really loved each other? Or was it only possession and escapism that had driven them?
She was alone. Her mouth slightly open, she breathed the salty air. Her eyes was held up high, but she wasn't looking at anything in particular. Her eyes had left her too.
The Dark side was too powerful. They were going to win the war.
The Order of the Phoenix was loosing its members day after day. They were going to loose the war. She could join them. She could fight alongside those kids to try and make a difference. She could. She had always hesitated. And she had nothing to loose. She never had.
But she wasn't like those kids, 21-year-olds who fought for what is right. Like those kids who are ready to be killed to try and make a difference, even the slightest. Like those kids who didn't seem to be scared. Like those kids who are brave.
She wasn't like them.
At 18-years-old, she was alone.
At 18-years-old, she was broken.
At 18-years-old, she jumped.
