"All those who are old enough to stalk in the shadows, gather for a Clan meeting!"
Hollowfire walked out of the medicine den, hiding a wince as her paw almost buckled underneath her.
What is it now? She thought with a hiss, frustrated at her own stupidity. Her constantly unsheathed claws dug into the ground below her, and she hissed as sharp pain shot through her leg.
"Unfortunately, Lizardstep has passed away, due to Orangestar. However, we will honor his life. Due to this, I must choose a new deputy. If you want to be deputy, step forward."
Hollowfire stood up and took three steps forward before stopping and sitting back down; two others did so as well.
After a few moments, Lightningstar spoke again. "Dewpad. Do you swear to protect this Clan, even if it costs you your life?"
Dewpad, a slightly blue and white cat with a sweet attitude (which was so sweet it made Hollowfire want to sink her teeth into her) looked up at the leader, slight surprise in her expression.
"I do."
"Then I shall make you ShadowClan's deputy."
Hollowfire dug her claws into the ground as Dewpad got up and sat next to Lightningstar, the only sign that she was both disappointed and angry.
"Clan dismissed. Dewpad will organize patrols shortly."
Hollowfire left the clearing immediately. She was NOT going on a patrol, even though she usually liked them.
She ran all the way to Carrionplace, stopping only when she heard the squeaks of rats coming from inside.
She sat down, frustrated, before getting up and starting to pace.
Annoyed and figuring she had nothing else to do, she decided to hunt.
She bent over the water, waiting for a frog to leap out.
Then, after a while, she heard someone crouch down beside her.
Hollowfire spun around, hissing. She saw Duskfang, one of ShadowClan's greatest fighters.
"I can tell that you are disappointed." She said in reply to Hollowfire's unspoken question.
Surprise flickered across Hollowfire's face. How did she know?
Duskfang smiled. "I see your confusion. However, I am here because I share your anger."
"Oh?"
Duskfang smiled. "Meet me at the Burnt Sycamore later. We have things to discuss."
Hollowfire nodded and walked back to the camp, her claws sinking into the ground as she imagined sinking them into Dewpad's fur.
Oh, this is going to be fun.
