I walked back to the white room. The whole time, I try to comfort myself by saying that Seo-Jun is happy. She's up there, somewhere, with Ji-Yeong. They're sitting at a beach, laughing and drinking. "You are the second last player to complete the game. You will have to wait until the last player finishes to go back." A guard says. The room was empty, meaning the others who had finished had already been brought back. I sat on the white staircase that we sat on earlier. My mind races as I remember joking to Seo-Jun about Mi-Nyeo at this exact area, only half an hour earlier. I sobbed silently, putting my head in my hands. A few minutes passed when the doors slid open. I didn't bother looking up to see who it was. It didn't matter. It wasn't Seo-Jun or Ji-Yeong. "You made it." I hear someone say. I finally look up to see a teary-eyed Gi-Hun. He was the last player left. His partner was 001, the old man.
Gi-hun sat next to me as the guards closed the door and started bringing those black boxes with the ribbon on it. "His name....his name was Oh Ill-nam." He tells me. I look at him as he seems to be far away. "He remembered?" I question, my voice small. Gi-Hun nods. "Seo-Jun?" He asks. "She....she gave me her whole bag." I say. Gi-Hun's eyes widened. "She gave herself up?" He asks. I nod, tears threatening to spill again. "Time to go." A guard says, walking to us. Gi-Hun stood up and held out his hand to help me and I took it. The walk back was silent. We walked through the pastel coloured staircases, which seemed a lot more dull than the first time. The hanging people weren't there anymore. The doctor and the guards.
We arrive at the doors of the bunk room and the guard turns to us. "You are the last two. The others all came together, but you two took longer." He says. "They're waiting to see who the last two are." Gi-Hun says. The guard nods. "Let's go in." I say. The guard opens the door and steps in before Gi-Hun then me.
Sae-Byeok pov
Sitting on my bed, which had two empty beds on either side. Somehow, I got assigned the bed between the last two. I look around again, as if to make sure that Y/N actually wasn't here yet. She wasn't. Damn it, where is she? She had to have won...right? I wring my hands together, watching the door. Turns out, Mi-Nyeo was alive and was in bed the whole time. She was the 'weakest link' and therefore, got a free pass. Deok-su and Mi-nyeo have been at it since we got back. "Calm down." I hear a voice say. I turn my head to the left to see Sang-woo looking at me. "Why?" I ask. "You're alive, why are you still nervous?" He asks. I scoff and cross my arms. "Well, unlike you. There are people here who I care about." I say. "How does it feel to have tricked Ali?" I ask him. "I know what you did. I saw Ali running around earlier, talking about your plan." I say. His eyes widened and he cleared his throat and looked away. The door opened, but I was too angry at Sang-woo to care right now.
"That's right. You stole his marbles from under his nose, tricked him to believe you could both get out and then won yourself." I continued. "He trusted you. I listened to the 'plan' you came up with and knew it was bullshit." I shout. Sang-woo looks down, guilty. "He thought of you as a brother...." I say before shaking my head. "He was winning. So you betrayed him." I finish before turning around to face the door and see Y/N behind Gi-Hun.
Y/N pov
"He was winning, so you betrayed him." I hear Sae-Byeok say. I watched everything unfold as we watched Sang-woo look down guiltily. Sae-Byeok turns and spots me and immediately gasps. "Y/N." She says before walking towards me and engulfing me in a hug. "You made it." She whispers into my hair. I hug her bag, burying my face in her jacket. She pulls back and looks at me, clearly noting my puffy red eyes and wet face. She pulls me with her to her bed. Gi-Hun walks to Sang-woo and speaks to him. He was angry. Most likely due to the news about Ali. Sae-Byeok makes me sit on the bed before hugging me again. We lie down on the bed, cuddled together. "You okay?" She asks. I shake my head slowly. We sit there for a while until the guards come around, handing us a potato and a bottle of water.
There was a player, 069, who had killed his wife. He complained about us being monsters and not leaving but Sang-woo stopped him by arguing that if we left now, all their deaths would be for nothing. In a way, I agreed with him. But knowing his nature, Sang-woo just wanted the money. It was now lights out time and I was still with Sae-Byeok in her bed. She was stroking my hair with her hand. "I'm sorry." She says. I look up at her, trying to meet her eyes in the darkness. "What for?" I ask. "Ignoring you." She says. I shake my head. "No. It's not your fault. I was always talking to Seo-Jun instead of you." I say. "Still. I'm sorry." She says. I nod and lie down again. "No matter what. Next game, we will stick together." She says. I nod and stare into her chocolate coloured eyes. In the darkness, I can't see her clearly, but I knew she was there....and she was looking at me. I leaned closer, watching her do the same. "I'm sorry." She whispers again. I nod a little, our faces now a few centimetres apart. "Shhhhh." I say. She closes the gap, leaning forward and placing her lips on mine.
Her lips were soft, sweet. There was a slight tinge of saltiness from her tears earlier today. We pull away to breathe and I rest my forehead on hers. "Don't apologise." I say. I kiss her cheek before laying down. I felt her lay down next to me and wrap her arms around my waist. A dream inside a nightmare.

We wake up to blinding lights. Everyone slept, no one bothered staying awake. Why would we kill each other anyway?
The large doors in the room open and guards walk in....with a box. The classical music plays we all of us players watch as the guards walk up the stairs behind where Gi-Hun's bed is. Then, I see it. A lifeless body of player 69. I turn to Sae-Byeok, who was next to me and bury my head into Sae-Byeok's shoulder, not wanting to see it. She wraps her arm around my shoulders and rubs my arm. I heard footsteps and walking before the speaker spoke. "Player 69, Eliminated." Sae-Byeok continues to rub my arm, whispering things into my ear. "Hey, don't worry, Princess. I got you." She says. "Princess?" I question, giving her a look. She smiles. "You're my princess. I'll protect you at all costs." She says. I get lost in her eyes. How the hell can a girl who was so cold before be so warm now? I lean in closer. All the feelings that had grown since we first met finally surfaced.
Suddenly, the speaker lady spoke again. "Attention all players. The fifth game is about to begin. All players, follow staff instructions and make your way swiftly to the game hall." Sae-Byeok and I move apart slightly and she shoots me a small smile and a wink. "Next time." She whispers before getting up. Now is NOT the time to be daydreaming Y/N! We get led through the coloured staircases again. I follow behind Sae-Byeok. Watching the back of her jacket and looking at her number. 067. Man, I remember when I first saw her number. On the floor getting beaten up by the guy behind me. 101. So much has happened in such little time.
We arrived in the white room again. However, this time, there are mannequins standing in the middle with pink vests on them. The vest has numbers, the numbers 1 to 16. "Welcome, players, to the fifth game. Before we begin, please make your way down the steps and choose one of the mannequins you see before you. Once you've chosen, take the corresponding vest. They are numbered 1 through 16." We all stand in silence before the praying guy walks up. He mutters something about god making people? If Ji-Yeong was here, she'd probably make some sort of joke against him. God, I miss her. And Seo-Jun. Once he picks it, others start picking. Deok-Su grabs 09, Mi-Nyeo grabs 11. Soon, all that's left was 01, 02, 03, 04....or 13, 14, 15, 16. Front four or the back four. "Your attention please. The numbers you see on the mannequins correspond to the order you will be playing in. Please make your decision carefully." Gi-Hun walks forward to the front four and I immediately shake my head. "What the hell is he doing?" I ask Sae-Byeok. She didn't respond. Instead, she pulls me along with her to the back four. She hands me 15 and takes 14 for herself before pulling us away too. We stand on the side, watching as Gi-Hun gets left with either 01 or 16. "Come on, Gi-Hun. Get 16." Sae-Byeok whispers. I also see Sang-woo silently begging for Gi-Hun to take 16....so when he reaches out for 01, Sang-woo starts muttering swear words.
That is until someone stops him and speaks to him. Then he lets the guy take 01 and walks to get 16 for himself. We get led to a door that opens to reveal what looks like a circus tent. It had a bridge going across it with two sides of glass going along it. The lights around the room were blinding and I had to squint to see the other side. "Hello players. Let me welcome you all to the fifth game. The fifth game...is glass stepping stones."
