Chapter 1

It’s the climb. It’s not about what’s waiting on the other side…it’s the climb.

Deidre lie starring up at the sky breathing slowly as the lyrics to that song skipped through mind.

She wondered dejectedly what she had done wrong on her journey to here. Where was here?

She smiled tiredly.

Lying in the middle of a grassy field in the middle of nowhere.

The breeze kicked up a notch and tickled over her skin on this warm Indiana day. It was a beautiful day and no one could or should be happier than Deidre. She left it all behind. She started over. She took the easy way out

She was a coward. She ran.

When she started the journey a year ago she would never have imagined that her life would have ended up in such turmoil, such chaos.

Bad things happen to good people. So they say.

Her question was what in the world did she do in a previous life to be so haunted in this one?

There was no cleansing of these demons or their capacity to destroy everything and everyone she came into contact with.

There wasn’t any breaking of a hex or jinx. This was real. This was a haunting.

She believed.

She had no answers, only more questions. Over and over again.

There was no one whom could help her. She had to do this on her own.

She kept moving. May be if she did then the people she did care about; would or could be saved.

The demons that haunted her since birth had promised to never let her go, and she knew from experience. Every time she began to get too close to a person, they would end up seriously injured or dead. And they hated her for it–always at the end they hated her.

So Deidre decided she could never stay where she would be known. She would have to do this journey alone, forever alone. Alone was good. She frowned at the sky. Whom was she trying to fool?

She only had herself.

She longed to have a loving bond with a friend, a loving relationship with a man. Friends and family and some day children.

Tears sprang to her eyes and she growled. It was useless, why didn’t they just kill her.

“You know why.” A voice whispered on the wind.
