Darkness, something I've been surround by my whole life. I come from a Farley large family mostly males, but I really wouldn't know because, I stay down here in my dark home. When my mother had me my father wasn't to happy about it, and so I've lived my whole life here locked away from the rest of the world.
The only light I ever saw in the darkness was my mother.  She visited me every night, when my father would be asleep.
Her voice sweet as honey, she would tell me stories of the world out side and tell me of the bright blue sky, how these creatures called birds would fly freely.
She visited me every night, teaching me things, telling me the stories, and telling me of something called romance and how it was a beautiful thing. My mother was a beautiful woman I ended up getting her silver hair, and her features from what she said.  I remember one time she brought me this glass called a mirror and told me to look at myself then her.
Until one day, she stopped coming and my father started coming down and that's when the darkness got darker.
He would beat me and shock me with electricity, blaming me for being born and that I wasn't born a boy, blaming me because I looked so much like my mother. It made him sick he. He began "training me" is what he said with pain. He told many times I would never leave this hell hole, he would keep me locked away from the rest of the world for ever.

I sighed.
Father had just left and I payed back on my old battered up bed.
Today he was not cruel, then he had ever been, I was still shaking from the electricity he shocked me with.
I started thinking of the stories my mother used to tell me an imagined myself souring through the bright blue skies, remembering every little detail she told me about them. I imagined myself souring as the little birds flew by me, the cool wind against my face. In those thoughts I felt free.
Sadly, they were only thoughts, and they would never become a reality.
I closed my eyes, and laid in the darkness letting sleep overtake me into another world escaping my reality.

"Silver" I heard my mothers voice. I looked at my surroundings, it was foggy and dark, I saw a light approaching me. "Happy 23rd birthday my love." She told me "Mother?" I cried out "Mother!" I cried again running toward that light.
There she was as beautiful as ever smiling with that beautiful smile she always gave me. "It's time my love, it's time for you to spread your wings and fly , it's time for you to see the light." I heard her honey voice smoothly say. "Do you remember that mirror that I gave you all those years ago?" She asked me "yes mother I still have it! It's hidden under my bed so my father can't find it."
I told her "Your present is inside the mirror." She said and then her eyes got wide, "You must hurry my love, open the mirror achieve was inside you must hurry you have little time now." She told me as she started fading away. "Mother please don't go!" I cried out the tears running hot down my face "I'll be waiting for you my sweet little phoenix, until we meet again."

I jolted awake sweating, I sat up in a hurry and grabbed the old mirror under my bed, I started in the reflection and looked at my messy locks, and my lavender eyes.
I took a deep breath and pressed on the back of the mirror, the glass popped open.
I gasped.
I slowly lifted up the mirror and behind the glass was a note, a purple hem necklace, then gem was small. I picked up the necklace and let it dangle and it began to glow a bright purple. I placed the necklace around my neck and grabbed the key examining it, and grabbed the note folded neatly.

Silver.

I read the my name, and unfolded the paper and began reading it.
