Leo was your everything. When you found out you were pregnant, as a young woman who hadn't even graduated university yet no less, it was nerve wracking, but you wanted to be a great mother to your child. Your sons father was out of the picture by the time you knew you were pregnant, since you had broken it off with him after fearing that your relationship was becoming potentially toxic.
Ever since you gave birth to him, you wanted to dedicate yourself to taking care of him as a single mother. That's what motivated you through the rest of university, and after you graduated, you opened the Lion Flowery with the help of your best friend, Choi Luna. You knew you had everything under control in securing a future for you and your son.
Waking up early in the morning, you spend a few minutes tossing and turning in bed before getting up to prepare for the day. After changing, brushing your teeth and hair, and refreshing your face, you go to your five year old sons room, quietly walking inside and crouching besides him.
"Leo" you say softly, nudging him gently. "It's time to wake up."
"Hmm" your son whimpers as he slowly wakes up for the day.
"Do you know what day it is?"
"Kindergarten day!"
"Yes! You're starting kindergarten today! How exciting is that?!"
"Super duper exciting!"
You help Leo get dressed as he talks about how excited he is to go to kindergarten and all of the things he is looking forward to. He has grown up so fast. It feels like yesterday he was born. Will he graduate high school tomorrow?
You bring him to the kitchen where you quickly make him his favorite breakfast; pancakes. You add some chocolate chips to make it special for such a special day.
"Yay!" says Leo, dinging into his food once you set the plate down in front of him. "It has chocolate?!"
"It's for the special occasion" you reply.
"Oh. It's yummy."
"Of course it is, it's chocolate"
Your son giggles, being the sun of your small galaxy.
Once he finishes eating, you head to the bathroom to make sure he brushes his hair and teeth and to make sure he goes to the toilet before you leave. Once you do, you hand him his backpack and lunch box, before taking his hand and walking out to your car, where you buckle him into his kiddie seat.
You spend the twenty minute car ride chatting and singing Disney songs like Hakuna Matata and I'll Make a Man Out of You. You live in a town, so there aren't many daycare's like back in Seoul. But you like it this way. By the time you get to the daycare, you can see several other parents are also there to sign in their kids.
You pull into a parking spot, getting out and beginning to notice the September air slowly changing. You unbuckle Leo and help him out of the car.
"You ready?" you ask.
"Yup!" Leo replies, taking your hand.
You both walk up to the daycare together, where you will sign Leo in for his first day. As you are nearing the entrance, you pass a father down on his knee talking to his daughter.
"Remember Bora, you mustn't misbehave, alright?" he asks, as his daughter Bora giggles and nods.
You enter the building and are greeted by one of the teachers, Mrs. Kang. You are signing Leo in when the man and daughter from outside enter to sight the young girl in. You recognize the man from somewhere but you can't remember where.
