Kids now a days don't listen to reason.
There are to many beats and lyrics and
Bases dropping in the background
For us to notice that coherent sentences
Form from aged lips in the hopes
Of pulling the alarm before it's too late for us.
But these same hands that reach to help
Hold the gun to our heads as we look ahead.
They ask, "what are you if not
What I want you to be?"
Well, just not enough for me, honey
See, it's not enough at all.
These beats won't get you anywhere
These lyrics have not meaning.
I don't know what you find in this
But I hope you grow out of it one day
Because it's a dying business
And you were meant to do better things.
Greater things, that you can't see yet.
See, they can see the future
And how it's supposed to be.
They know exactly how I'm messing up
Their plan for me and what's supposed to happen.
They tell me which paths I can walk
Because I can only really go to one place
And the beats that I March to are forgotten
In their place are those commands
Left foot, right foot, forward.
Never looking back at the lyrics that got me this far
And ignoring the reason kids don't listen in the first place.
To many dreams behind drum sets
And microphone stands
Something empowering in the vision
Of empowering others through art.
With words, and songs, and pictures
Released into thin air because
The paper just weighted it down.
Something enlightening about a spotlight
On a stage and people cheering for us.
Something crazy in the idea that it could happen
And not just be a dream.
Something relentless in not wanting to give up
This hope that maybe they're wrong
And something only artists will understand
Not wanting to hand over that handmade wand
So that someone else can tap you on the shoulder
And say, "now you are something real"
You are something to be noticed because
Something about this art is important
It has gathered enough attention
And now it is real.
It was a story that started out with rebellion
And warning signs pointing
In really any other direction.
These inspirations inspire nations
They give courage and confidence and
Despite the belief of too many older lips
There are never to many beats and lyrics and
Basses dropping in the background.

PoetryWhat's our story? We are just a group of Delinquents that no one expects to do well. In reality, the only 'trouble' we get into will probably get us laughed at and encouraged than into any actual trouble.
