hiding

Towns have been destructed. Cities have been burned to the ground. For most of the Australian population is in hiding. Or they have just left. the country was taken over by the rich and powerful. Our economy is dead. We have no government.

For someone like me (a girl), you have to be careful out there. There are these vans that come by, taking whatever girl they want. Whoever they take is to be sold at an auction. The person who buys you can use you for anything they please. It's scary. My mom was taken when I was 12. My dad was crushed. He swore it would never happen to me.

The people started to fight back. By people, I mean a small army we managed to collect. While my dad went and fought, I went into hiding. We had family friends I stayed with. And when I was 16, my dad was shot at a resistance movement.

Now here I am. 18 years old, with no family, no friends. I'm living my life in cellars and old buildings. Hoping I won't be taken away. Hoping I can leave this country somehow. I'm currently in a part of Sydney that was destroyed before I was born. There's a whole community here. It's awesome. We all hide together and we all stay together.

Exept for tonight. I went out on my own. I didn't think much of it because I was mad. I got mad at Avery, she got on my nerves and I just walked away. That was the night I was taken. I don't remember much. I remember being blindfolded. Then it all goes to a fade.

I remember being thrown in the back of a truck. I remember being tied up. It was all black. The next thing I know, I was being taken into a run down theater and I was forced to change into a skimpy outfit. And stood on the old stage.

"Here we have a lovely young lady, about the age of 18/19. Something like that. Do we have an offer??"

"150!" Someone yelled.

"200!!" Someone else yelled. I want to cry.

"250!" That first person yelled.

"Do I hear any other offers? 300? Anyone? Do I hear any 300's? Come oonn! Doesn't she look wonderful?"

"750." I heard a deep voice. Everyone gasped. I don't know why. I'm confused.

"800? Anyone for 800? No one? Going once. Going twice! SOLD! To the man in the back with blue hair!" I'm ripped off the stage and shoved back into the room full of other girls just as scared as me.

Time went by and girls leave and come back. Most of them in tears. I cried a few times. Then a man came in and pulled me away from the girls. I stumbled out and was thrown into another man. He had blue hair. He must be the one who bought me.

"Hey. Hey. Hey. Be nice. Okay? That's disrespectful. Don't throw a girl around. Especially around the person who just bought her." I want to slap him. I want to tell him that it's disrespectful to buy people. That people shouldn't be bought. But I don't. I keep to myself and don't make eye contact.

"Alright. See ya Mark. Don't know when the next time I'll see you, but it probably won't be soon." I'm still being held in this strange mans arms. He's in a tank top. I can see a tattoo on his left bicep. It says
To the moon
I don't know what it means, I don't know why he has it. I'm curious, I raise my hand to it and slowly trace my finger on it. He stops walking and looks down to me. I timidly look up to him.

"Don't look at me yet." He barks at me, I sharply put my head down.

"I'm sorry.." I whisper.

"Don't speak unless I say you can." He says harshly. I nod ever so slightly. He stops in his tracks again. He leans down next to my ear. I can feel his hot breathe down my neck.

"Good girl. Look at me baby. Look at your master." He lifts my head up. I'm fighting with all my might not to cry. But it doesn't work very well. I let some of the tears fall.
