I tapped my fingers on the brown, wooden table. I knew I should be paying attention, but I was just sitting, daydreaming about living in a big castle in England, hmm or maybe Italy. A few more minutes and I'd be allowed to leave.
Finally, the professor started to end the lecture.
"Now, I'll be expecting your assignments which are due in on Wednesday. It's worth ten percent of your years mark. Good luck to you all and remember- we'll start looking into psychoanalysis more next lesson." And with that, he turned around to turn off the projector. . . Dismissing us. I had no idea what the assignment was as I hadn't been paying attention. That probably wasn't exactly the best idea as from what I did pay attention to, this assignment was kind of important. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love psychology, which is why I was studying it in university. The reasons of why people act the way they do, how their actions can be caused by things from their subconscious that they don't even realize intrigues me. But sometimes I just wasn't in the mood to listen to a man talking for two hours. This was my last year of university and I would have my degree. I would be a free woman. I smiled at that idea.
As I walked out of the university building, I saw a person with fiery red, curly hair run towards me. She didn't just run towards me, she ran straight into me which caused a painful collision.
"Hello my lovely!" She chirped. I glared at her, straightening my clothes and rubbing my shoulder which she had rammed into.
"Someone's a little too excited to see me," I replied. She looped her arm through mine and started pulling me forwards.
"Why wouldn't I be excited to see my most favouritest person in the world?" I didn't even bother telling her that 'favouritest' wasn't a word. She was constantly making up new words. I could make a whole new dictionary with her special vocabulary. That was just what Adriana was like, but I guess her strange personality and never ending supply of energy was one of the reasons why she's ones of my best friends. And I loved this hyper, strange girl to death.
"Ana, where exactly are you taking me?" I questioned as she led me down the street, the opposite direction of where I was supposed to be going.
"We're meeting the rest of the gang at the cafe." Ana liked to refer to our group of friends as a 'gang', because according to her, it made us sound cooler, like we were in some 90's television show
"I can't go, I've got work right now." She pouted at me.
"Come on Lexi! You're ALWAYS working, can't you take a break?" She whined.
"Sorry, no-can-do. And I'm not always working, only on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday." Okay, so maybe I did work a bit too much
"Yeah. . . That's not much," she mumbled sarcastically. I sighed, taking my arm away from hers.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow, okay?"
"Fine, you better be there and if you don't come willingly then I'm dragging your ass there. " I rolled my eyes at her. The thing was, she wasn't even joking.
"Of course I will I wouldn't miss out on the one beautiful day we all reunite and how could I possibly deny all of you the pleasure of hanging out with me? I exclaimed. After hugging and saying goodbye to Ana, I made my way towards my workplace.
McDonald's.
Yes, that's right, I work at McDonald's.
You know how when you're younger and your parents constantly tell you that you have to do good in school or you'll end up working at a fast food joint such as McDonald's? Well, that was my life. Although, the only reason I was even working at McDonald's was because I was in a desperate need of money, and McDonald's was the only place wiling to hire a sixteen year old with absolutely no work experience. It was cruel that most places required you to have experience to work in the first place. How am I supposed to get the damn experience if no one hires me? But there was just one place that did. One big yellow 'M' had been my savior.
I'm twenty-two and still working here. It's quite depressing, really. But unfortunately money doesn't grow on trees; so I'm stuck here. I struggled to find any other job but I guess I had fallen into routine working at McDonald's
I walked into the fast food restaurant and put on my work clothes. Someone had left a newspaper on the counter. On the front page was Dylan Emerson, the CEO of Emerson corp. who was usually in the paper for one thing or the other. I admired how handsome he was before I threw the newspaper into the bin. I wondered if someone like him ever even came into a place like McDonalds.
As I took my place behind the counter with a fake smile plastered on my face, I mentally prepared myself for a long day of 'would you like fries with that?'
Yup, this is the fun life.
