You gaze into his eyes. You can't identify it, but there's a certain emotion swimming within his white orbs.
That comforting feeling returns to you, bubbling from the depths of your stomach, and it fills your heart with a calming warmth as you look up at him. You want to stay in this moment forever, like you're addicted to the feeling, and in all honesty, you think you are.
You want so badly to understand what he means, and yet you don't want to ask. It's like the mystery intrigues you and makes you want to figure his meaning out on your own. Or have him explain it when the time comes.
Then, the cellar door creaks open, and Caligo quickly straightens his arm and slides you into his large palm before setting you down on the ground. When you look up at him, you see him smile softly.
"Deep...breath," he murmurs in a hushed tone that sends a chill down your spine.
You suck in an enormous breath and hold it in your lungs. He gives a slight bow of his head, silently saying farewell before being encased in black smoke, and once the mist dissipates, he's gone.
"Ida?" You hear a familiar voice call out from behind you.
You spin around, letting out a quick breath as your heart jumps into your throat. As soon as you lock eyes with Sylvia's dark blue orbs, your tense body relaxes, and you release a deep sigh, glad that it's just her.
She's nicer to you than the others are, and she's one to know falsehoods when they're being spread among the Sisters. Because of that, she never believed the lies the others said about you, except for the "child of a Night Beast" theory that's been going around.
You can tell by how uncomfortable she constantly is when you're around that she believes in that conspiracy. Still, you consider her a friend, even if she doesn't feel the same with you.
She quirks a brow at you while taking a step back, glancing from you to the medical kit in your hands. When her eyes lock with yours again, she clears her throat. "Waning Gibbous aren't supposed to be in here."
You blink, then your eyes widen.
Of course, you should've known you aren't allowed in here. First Ranks are barely allowed anywhere in this cathedral, let alone in the cellar with all of the sacred Moonchild Gloria statues.
You search your mind for an excuse, anything. You would even be okay with lying your way out of this situation. But, as your mouth hangs open and your eyes flick between Sylvia's, nothing comes to mind.
No excuse, no plea, not even a single lie.
You're frozen with fear as a memory pops up; Brother Lev did something similar to this, he wandered into the left tower when he was only a First Rank. And after that incident, he was never seen again.
Father Cormac said he sent Lev to another guild, one higher in the mountains so Lev could "clear his head," but after that, he was never talked about again. It's like everyone forgot he even existed.
"Ida!" Mother Saoirse barks, causing both you and Sylvia to jump.
Sylvia spins around and steps out of the way, revealing an annoyed older woman with her brow furrowed and her posture stiff. She strides up to you, her eyes briefly flicking to the medical kit before locking with yours.
"For what reason did you have to sneak into the cellar, steal a medical kit, and use its contents without permission?" she asks, her voice straining to keep from snapping at you again.
You feel your legs start trembling as she gives you a questioning glare. You've never seen her so angered, and it worries you.
What if you have to leave the guild? What if you have to leave Caligo? Your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the cellar door opening.
