Our three heroes were climbing up what appeared to be a tall Mountain.
"So, Enis. So far you've been of little use to me and Dodger," Mark stated.
"Dodger and I," Enis corrected.
"You can do that but not a simple spell?" Mark asked, trying to agitate him.
"Mark, lay off it. I told you he's just not capable of that," Dodger chimed in.
"Not capable of what?" Enis inquired.
The three stopped walking to continue their conversation.
"Being angry or, well, basically any emotion other than happy," Mark said simply.
"I can too!" Enis said, taking a defensive pose.
"Okay, then what makes you mad?"
"Well," Enis began thinking.
"Come on guys. We've already wasted too much time," Dodger complained.
Enis stared off for a moment then looked at Dodger.
"How much have we wasted?" He asked.
"Well, from our last stop to here was one day. Then five days to get back to the mansion, five days back, and one day to get back to where we started. I think you can do the math," Dodger told him.
Enis pulled out his hands to count . When he ran out of fingers, he used Mark's hand to count.
"That's twelve days..." Enis said.
"You think," Mark retorted.
Enis started fidgeting. Mark and Dodger shared a look.
"Enis, is there something you're not telling us?" Dodger asked.
"Well, it's not really that important. I mean there is a simple fix. You get as far away as possible," Enis continued rambling on.
"Enis, what are you talking about?" Mark asked.
"Well, I uh... I haven't eaten in twelve days," Enis said.
"Sure you have, you ate with us just last night," Dodger said.
"No, no. You don't understand. Let me rephrase it. I haven't fed in twelve days."
Mark sighed, "Is there a difference?"
"Is there a difference between a warlock and a spellcaster?" He didn't wait for a response, "I can eat human food, but I need to eat some form of- how should I put it- animal."
"So let's try you up some hamburgers," Dodger offended.
"It doesn't work like that."
"Then how does it work?" Mark probed.
"We have two options. One, we stand here for the rest of the day and I explain how it works. Or two, you and Dodger continue over this Mountain and get as far away from me as possible," Enis told him.
"We can't leave, I mean it can't possibly be that bad," Dodger said.
Her words went through Enis as he just continued staring at Mark.
"Okay, now you're creeping me out," Mark told him.
"Enis, what's on your mind," Dodger asked slowly.
"I never noticed how appetizing Mark's neck looks," Enis said creepily.
Mark's face was painted with horror, "Okay, Dodger we are not staying."
Enis shook his head quickly to refocus.
"Sorry Mark," Enis said meekly.
"No Mark, we're staying. Enis, how often do you need to feed?" Dodger continued.
"Every fourteen days, preferably beforehand. Things can get a little freaky," Enis told her.
"Define freaky," Mark said, holding up a make shift cross.
"Well, um. Blackouts, uncontrollable actions, hallucinations, and slight agitation, just to name a few,"Enis explained.
"There's four reasons we should go," Mark pointed out to Dodger.
"No, we're going to stay," She stated firmly.
"Mark's right, it's dangerous for you to stay," Enis told her.
"There are some mice and squirrels around here... Would that work?" Dodger inquired.
"Only if you have like a million of them," Enis replied cheerily.
He stared off longingly again and Dodger's face became concerned.
"What are you thinking buddy?" Dodger asked.
"How satisfying it would be to sink my fangs into your soft neck and feel the warm blood trickle down my throat," he told her.
"Okay... Let's get you down this mountain and to some real food," she said with a hint of panic in her voice.
This seemed to snap Enis out of his, lack for a better word, trance. The three began walking down the mountain they had spent what seemed like forever climbing up.
