As Addison walked through the doors, she was met with a round of applause. She smiled, shaking her head as her coworkers-her squad-clapped and cheered.

"All right, all right," she waved her hand, trying and failing to lower the energy level. "Back to work."

Chigs approached with a white, flat box. He flipped up the lid. "Congrats, Chief!"

She let loose a small laugh, and the bullpen erupted again. It's not often you catch Chief Spencer laughing. "Thanks, Chigs," she said as she grabbed a Krispy Kreme doughnut.

Simon Chigs, her squad's smartest detective and resident computer genius, walked with her to her office. "The whole floor's been waiting for you to show up," he tells her, then lowers his voice. "There's even been whispers of a promotion."

Addy shakes her head. "I'm already the police chief. I don't need a promotion."

Chigs laughs. "They might offer you a board position!"

Addison groans as she drops her bag onto her desk chair. "Yeah, no thanks. I'd rather skip the bureaucracy and keep dealing with the criminals."

She glances at the new files on her desk, peeking at the one on top. On Saturday, Addy led a strike team that took down the headquarters of one of New York's largest weapons dealers. She's been working towards it for months.

At the proud smile on her face, Chigs clasps her shoulder. "You did good, Addy."

"Thanks, man. Now seriously." She nudges him towards the door. "Back to work."

"Sir yes sir!" he calls before rushing out the door, closing it behind him.

Addy shakes her head, still smiling, and takes a seat. She spins around to face the windows and her view of the city skyline. Central Park expands to the South, and she can see all the way down to One World Trade at the other end of the island. She scans the streets below, watching the heavy traffic of a Monday morning. Finishing her doughnut, she spins back to her desk to preview the week's case developments.

She'd just gotten through the fifth manilla folder when a light knock came at her door.

"Come in," she called.

The door opened to reveal Kate O'donnell, one of her detectives. "Hey, Chief."

"Hey, come on in."

Katy took one of the two chairs on the other side of Addy's desk, pulling her auburn hair to one side and resting her chin on her palm.

"So, you're famous now?"

Addy let slip a smile. "You thought I wasn't already?"

Katy laughed, a bright, loud sound that filled every corner of the room. "Do you know how many calls I've taken for you today?" she goes on. "Not even important ones. Basically fan mail."

"What can I say," Addy said, "I'm just that good."

"Yeah, sure. You're also the nicest person I've ever met," Katy replied.

Addison closed her file, leaning back in her chair. "I get shit done, you know that."

Katy shrugs. "Of course I do. And I couldn't ask for a better chief. But, I'm just saying, you might want to put on a warmer face for the day."

Addy raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"We've got our new recruit coming in."

Oh, right, Addy suddenly remembered. "Yeah, her name was..."

"Hale," Katy offered. "Sophie Hale."

"Right. Thanks for the reminder."

Katy got to her feet. "Anytime. Here's her file. Thought you'd wanna look it over one last time."
