prologue

Hana falls down onto her knees as she hears her parents in their room yelling at the top of their lungs. She overheard her mom and her step-dad arguing.

Hana cries as she hugs her knees , covering her ears as she tries her best to breathe. She could never handle the fights that had always occured ever since her mom had gotten remarried. For the past 6 years... the fights had always occured non stop.

"Hana..." he knelt down infront of her. Slowly bringing himself to hold her hands. Hana flinches at his touch , afraid.

"Hey, hey, don't be afraid." he whispers , cupping her cheeks , as he makes her look at her. "It's me , Yeonjun.." he smiles. A tear drops down Hana's cheeks and Yeonjun immediately wipes them away with his thumb , pulling her into a tight hug as Hana cries into his arms.

Yeonjun shushes her down as he strokes her hair , "i'll get you out of here ok?" He was about to stand up along with Hana before Hana grabs his wrists , pulling him back down. She shakes her head. "mom... she needs me." she tries to get out of Yeonjun's grip as she flinches hearing her dad yell. Yelling , she covers her ears.

"mom will be fine..." yeonjun says. "i'll call Heeseung to pick you up."

Hana shakes her head , "what about mom?" she cries. Yeonjun brings her into a tight hug , whispering "i'll take care of your mom. my dad won't do anything to harm her. i promise." Hana cried harder in yeonjun's arms. Yeonjun stands her up slowly , sitting her down on the couch. He dials Heeseung's number , calling his bestfriend.

"He's on his way. You wait outside , kay?" Yeonjun says , bracing himself as he tries to enter the room to stop the fight. Hana stops him. "i don't want you to get hurt , not again.." she pleads , her voice sounding shaky. Yeonjun smiles before getting down onto his knees , her level , bringing her  forehead to his , something they always did as siblings. "i'll be fine... don't worry about me." he whispers.

Hana nods. The two pull away from each other. "Just promise me.. mom and dad , they'll both be fine. I want us to be happy again." Hana cries. Looking at all the family frames that were around the house. Yeonjun smiles , "and we will be.. mom and dad are just going through a rough time." Hana turns to him before chuckling , as she swallows the lump in her throat.

A knock on the door. Yeonjun grabs Hana's wrists , dragging her towards the front door. Yeonjun opens it , revealing Heeseung. "is it bad?" Heeseung asks. Yeonjun nods as an answer before handing his younger sister under his bestfriend's care. "you know what to do." he whispers.

"what about you? will you be alright?" Heeseung asks worried.

"i'll be fine.. there's nothing to worry about." Yeonjun answers. "now go!" Yeonjun says , before closing the door.

"Jun! Jun! Don't!" Hana pleads , banging the door , worried for her older brother. She cries even louder. She can still hear the fight even from outside.

"Hana... you know he'll be fine... let's get some fresh air... escape from all of this." Heeseung softens his voice as he spoke to Hana , he was worried for her. Seeing her hands shake , and the state she was in. He never liked seeing Yeonjun's family in this state.

Hana immediately hugs Heeseung , crying in his arms. Heeseung hugs her back , pulling her away he cups her face , wiping of her tears. "i'm here now , ok?"
