I live in a world that has forgotten music .
Fifty years ago, the most powerful superhero families in the world put forward certain proposals before the ' World Council' that they claimed would make the planet easier to protect . Among the various proposals the Council adopted, one was to declare 'Music' as a dangerous weapon, that caused disorder among the people and made them more vulnerable to attacks . They ruled that music of all kinds was to wiped off of the face of the earth. And that, is how music was forgotten ....until now .
I live in a world plagued by battle, death, fear and uncertainty . This world has been at battle with itself for almost three years now, with all the powerful families , the Campbells, Winchesters, Singers, all bent on destroying each other to grab power.
Everywhere I look, dead eyes stare back at me .....eyes that have forgotten how the light shines .
But , when I look at the mirror , I see eyes that seem to reflect light ....eyes that can still dream . It's not that my life has always been perfect . I have seen darkness so profound that I forgot there was light at the end of the tunnel that seemed to stretch on endlessly .
I spent days gasping, trying to break through the black surface that flooded my mind . It didn't help that my parents hated me either . To them, I was just not that perfect child they had hoped for .
The person who grabbed my hand and pulled me out was Jack .
He was human, just like me . But unlike me, he didn't think of himself as a disappointment . He raised me up slowly . He was the first person I'd known who loved me .
I had always been terrified of breaking rules .
Jack told me music was worth it . I believed him and he showed me a new world, a world filed with the magical symphony of sounds .
Music was my second love, after Jack .
Jack showed me things about myself, I didn't even know existed . He made me discover laughter , kindness and all good things in the world . Where people see rubble, Jack saw the beauty that grew within .
But then again, it was too good to last .
We knew what we were doing was contrary to law . Singing of any kind was against the rules , sooner or later we were sure to be caught .
But, that day seemed to come too soon .
Jack made time for me to escape . I ran out of the town, my tears lost in the wind . I walked around aimlessly for days . I felt empty, lost .
Why did you leave me Jack ?
During my aimless wanderings , I came across a town, or the remains of a town . All I saw around me was rubble . I saw people crying , small kids staring at the fall that had killed their parents ....all their eyes empty . I made my way towards the centre of the gathering .
What I was about to do was dangerous but I had to do something .
I start to sing .
Jack there's so much you taught me .
At first I see confusion on people's faces .Then apprehension .
You taught me that I didn't have to be a superhero to do something good for this world . I hope you know , you were 'My Hero' Jack .
The song I sing was one of Jack's favourites . Tears roll down my cheeks . People walk slowly towards me now . Their expressions have shifted to that of surprise . Some of the older people are crying softly .
I'm giving them what you gave me Jack . I'm giving them hope . I'm giving them the power to dream .
I look as more people gather around me . There's something that's changed in their eyes . I see a new light forming now . I see hope . I look up at the sky and smile .
Thank you Jack .
