(I love writing fluff so much. Again, Alexis is not my OC.)

"Oh. My. God. Lupus, get your ass over here and look at him!!" Alexis cooed, eyes sparkling.

The lovely couple were out on a stroll that chilly winter afternoon. Fluffy white flakes of snow drifted down from the sky, moved about by the icy winds. Not many people were walking, leaving the city sidewalks surprisingly empty and giving Alexis and Lupus nice room for their walk. With every step, they left prominent footprints in the thin layer of snow that had already made its home on the pavement. At the sound of his name being called, Lupus' pointed ears twitched lightly and he looked back over his shoulder to his partner.

Alexis was staring through a large glass window of an animal shelter. Her hands were pressed against the glass and she was crouched down to be eye to eye with a small cocker spaniel puppy. Needless to say, she was melting at the sight of it. Small coo's and aww's coming from her as she stared at it. The pup was hopping up onto the glass, resting his paws where Alexis' hands were. She was in love. "Oh my God. Oh my God he's adorable. Lupus, we have to get him." She said, the baby voice she was using on the pup still being used for talking to Lupus. For a minute, he was grateful he didn't have a tail to wag and give away how he felt after hearing her talk to him like that.

Lupus put his hands into his fluffy coat's pockets. He tilted his head to one side as he walked over in long strides, eventually coming to crouch next to her. He rested a finger on the glass, and the tiny puppy pressed his muzzle in the same spot. The wide, curious eyes of the cocker spaniel stared up at him, and it's cropped tail wagged behind it. Lupus tilted his head to the other side and chuckled softly as it mirrored his movement.

Alright, yeah, he admitted to himself, it's adorable.

"Can we please get him?" Alexis asked, folding her hands and staring up at him. She drew out the 'e' in please, sounding like a kid who really wanted to go into the candy store. Lupus, always (well- maybe not always) the more rational thinker, scratched his chin in thought. As much as he would love to take in the little pup, they weren't prepared for a new puppy. The small house they had was already crowded a lot.

But maybe.. If I can get it ready in time.. He glanced down at Alexis and the exaggerated pleading expression she made on her face. "Don't give me that look." Lupus crossed his arms. Alexis only continued to give him the puppy eyes. She knew that usually got to him. "Pleeeease?"

Lupus pinched the bridge of his nose and looked away, his ears twitching again. He sighed quietly. As much as he wanted to honor her request and take the small doggo home, he knew that they just weren't prepared.

He looked back to Alexis and stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Alexis, I want to, I really do, but.." He saw her face fall as he broke the ever so tragic news to her. "We really can't take care of a dog right now. You know we have our own shit to work out." Lupus stated firmly.

"Fine.. I guess so.." Alexis let out the heavy sigh and stood up. She lightly grabbed his arm. "Is there really any other way we can get him?" She asked.

Lupus shrugged. "Maybe if we can work everything out." He said and stood up beside her. He allowed her to continue holding his arm as they walked down the street. He had taken note of her dropped mood, and decided to take her to a restaurant to help cheer her up.

Then, Lupus got an idea. An actually great idea, at least to him. He smiled at the thought of how happy it'd make her, and firmly told himself in his head that he would go through with it. Lupus' ears twitched slightly and he grinned.

This was going to be good.

-----

As December rolled around, Lupus had made lots of big progress. He had fixed the house as much as he could, bought things in secret, and hadn't told Alexis what he'd been up to. After all, he had to keep the surprise.

They walked down the street again, as they had that nice day a month ago. They passed the shelter yet again, and he perked his ears when he saw Alexis hurry over to the glass again.

He could sense the sheer disappointment off of her when the young pup wasn't there to greet her.

"Guess he was adopted already.." Alexis mumbled, stuffing her hands in her jacket pockets.

Lupus looked at her and feigned sadness, secretly clutching the receipt in his fluffy coat pocket. "It really is too bad." He replied, taking one hand out of his pocket to wrap around her shoulder. He offered some form of comfort.

"But come on. I'm sure wherever he was taken was lovely." He hummed. "They put up the decorations for Christmas in the town square. You always love going to look at them. Let's go." He smiled warmly and attempted to cheer her up.

Alexis stared at her feet. "Yeah.. Yeah, you're right. He'll be fine.." There was still a strong sense of sadness and disappointment in her voice. "Let's go look."

The town square had been, as it was every year, absolutely beautiful. Bright, colorful lights hung from buildings, contrasting the slowly setting darkness of night as the sun vanished over the horizon. It got dark much earlier, due to it being winter, so the pair strolled home together, arm in arm.

They finally came home after a long day out. Lupus removed his coat and hung it up on the coatrack, helping Alexis take off her own. As he was hanging them up, Alexis moved to the living room and sat down on their couch. She gazed out the window and let out a long, exaggerated sigh.

He sighed and chuckled softly. "Hey. Alexis." He sat down next to her. "What do you say to opening a few gifts early this year, hm? It's only a few days early."

Lupus watched as Alexis slowly nodded. "Alright.. Sounds nice to do." She smiled softly.

He stood up and left the living room, making his way upstairs to the bedroom. He reached under the bed and whispered, nudging a small pup out from the gap. "C'mon.. Hop in."

Lupus got it into a wrapped, loosely lidded box so he could still breathe. He carried it downstairs, a proud look on his face.

Alexis' face lit up. "What's that?"

"Your gift."

Lupus set the box on the ground. "Want to do the honors of opening it, love?"

She was off the couch in an instant, examining the box. She slowly lifted the lid off, and when she saw what was inside, she almost cried.

The tiny cocker spaniel puppy instantly jumped out of the box, tail wagging rapidly as he hopped gladly into her lap. Alexis was tearing up, frozen as if she was afraid to break him.

"You didn't."

"I did."

Lupus watches with a grin as she held the small, precious pup. "Oh my God.. Hello Charlie.." Alexis read the name tag and smiled, kissing the pup's head.

Oh yeah, Lupus decided. Completely worth it.
