A giddy grin took over backyard girl's face. She hugged the cake close to her chest.

The time she spent with Kageyama replayed in her mind, and she was sad that it had ended.

When she was in the safety of her house, she spun around, taking a bite of the warm cake.

When the rain stopped, she got off her dry seat on her porch and walked across her backyard. The smell was euphoric, and the ground felt dewy against her feet.

She strained her ears. The sounds of birds chirping afar reaching her ears, and the wind blowing.

She smiled, listening to these familiar noises. Suddenly, a hushed voice reached her ears.

She frowned. It came again. It was humming; and it was definitely coming from the house next door.

She peeked over her fence and found Kageyama humming a song. Her eyes widened as she slid down, pressing her ear to the wood.

Kageyama went from humming to singing, softly muttering words.

The girl's eyes widened, and she struggled to catch his soft words; but sure enough, she could hear it. A gentle, slightly baritone voice, beautifully singing.

She shifted around the wall-like fence, with her ear still pressed to it, trying to hear him better.
Falling through the open gate between their backyards, she groaned, and looked up at Kageyama.

He turned around, stunned at the sudden noise, before seeing it was the Backyard girl and rolling his eyes.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, eying her as she got up and dusted herself.

"I didn't know you could sing, Kageyama," She avoided the question, making her way to where he was.

"That's because I can't," He went back to looking up at the sky, yawning a bit.

"You liar!" She exclaimed dramatically, coming in front of Kageyama and putting her hands on her hips. "Your voice was amazing, I'm not even joking."

Kageyama scoffed, turning away once more, much to the Backyard Girl's annoyance.

"Hey! I'm talking to you, don't be rude," She shifted to face him again, and Kageyama just moved again, stifling a laugh as the girl gasped.

"How dare you," She started moving around him, moving again every time he turned his head away.

Eventually, she got dizzy, and dropped to the ground.

"You're so mean," She said, squinting at Kageyama as he laughed at her.

"I'm not," He smiled slightly, putting out his hand for her to get up.

She glared at him, taking his hand and helping herself up.

"So, Kageyama," She closed her eyes against the breeze that was blowing. "How are you today?"

"I'm doing okay," He answered nonchalantly, kicking around a leaf on the ground. "You?"

"I'm doing amazing. I loved your singing," She turned to him, flashing a smile before looking back to the sky. "You should sing more."

Kageyama stared at the girl with widened eyes, before the corners of his lips lifted up in a tiny grin. Gods, he really was smiling more these days.

"Thank you."

She hummed, letting out a content sigh. She got lost in the silence that fell upon them, turning
her attention to the clouds instead.

And then she heard it. It was the same song they'd played together once, and Kageyama turned away as he sang.

The girl was spell-bound once more.
