Bluepaw sighed happily. It was her first day as an apprentice of Moonclan! She leapt through the brambles, which brushed against her silver-blue pelt. Puddles of water sparkled in the sunlight, and fresh blossom drifted down from the trees. Bluepaw clambered out of the bramble bushes and into the clearing, beginning to pick up her pace. She raced along the shoreline of the stream which marked the end of Moonclan's territory. She felt a spring of energy in her legs as she began to bolt down the stream, occasionally leaping onto the steeping stones nearby the water's edge. "Bluepaw!" She heard her mentor, Berryflower, call her name. She stopped and turned round, letting Berryflower catch up. "I'm not as young as i used to be, slow down!" Wheezed the cream coloured she-cat. Though her tone was sharp, Bluepaw saw a friendly glint in her deep blue eyes. Berryflower must have been one of the only warrior brave enough to admit that her hunting skills weren't as sharp as they used to be. She was old, but she still had a few good old fights left in her. Moonclan's leader, Bramblestar, jumped down from a tree, alongside her sister, Whitepaw. "What are you, a Swiftclan cat? You run like one, that's for sure." Grumbled Bramblestar, annoyance in his tone. Bramblestar was always grouchy, but had reasonable sense of humour, and according to Whitepaw, he was as boring as a dead fox. Bluepaw didn't know much about her clan leader, but he was a sensible leader, that was definite. Whitepaw bounced up to her. "Hey Bluepaw! What have you caught? Look i got a sparrow!" Meowed Whitepaw, puffing out her chest in pride. She dropped the sparrow at Bluepaw's feet, which suddenly made Bluepaw look stupid. "Urm...i haven't caught anything today." She murmured quietly. Unfortunately, Bramblestar had ears like a fox. "NOTHING? You've got to be joking!" He sighed. "Oh well. Time for camp i think, before poor Berryflower's legs drop off." Berryflower looked offended.
"Excuse me!? I may be old but at least i wasn't a toddler as stupid as you! I do remember when you went SWIMMING, youngster."
"I was only an apprentice! Yes I couldn't swim but... There's no need to resort to that again!" Bramblestar protested. Berryflower laughed.
"Well. You were a stupid apprentice. You and your girlfriend used to get into so much trouble together, even when you were a warrior!"
"Frozenleg is NOT my girlfriend!" He retorted. "We're just friends! And you should know that! Or has spiders spun cobwebs in your ancient brain, 'O' old one?" He teased. There was a friendly glimmer in Bramblestar's eye. Bluepaw was impressed that two cats could develop such a friendship, but it would never match her and Whitepaw's kinship. Berryflower let out a croaky laugh, before sighing. "Let's go before i turn to bones then." She rasped. Bluepaw padded besides Whitepaw. Whitepaw giggled, eyeing her mentor. "Frozenleg..." She whispered before making an almost silent whistling sound. Bramblestar gave Bluepaw and Whitepaw a quick glare before turning away. "Frozenleg Frozenleg Frozenleg..." Whitepaw echoed off. Bluepaw sniggered.
"He wants to touch noses with her." She whispers. Whitepaw's expression brightened.
"He wants to have kits with her!" She blurted out loud. Bluepaw burst out laughing and fell to the floor. Whitepaw did some imitations of Bramblestar. "I love Frozenleg!!!" She yowled in laugher, landing on top of Bluepaw. The two apprentices screamed in laughter. Bluepaw stopped laughing suddenly. "Whitepaw..." She whispered to her sister. Whitepaw's eyes widened in terror.
"Hi Frozenleg...we were just laughing about squirrel jokes..." Bluepaw trailed off. Frozenleg lifted an eyebrow.
"Oh really? Then i suppose, if you're laughing and messing about, you've already hunted enough to feed all the elders and kits?" She meowed sharply. Whitepaw dropped the puny sparrow at her feet. "Will this do?" She asked, wide-eyed and innocently. Frozenleg sighed. "I suppose, but the clan needs prey sooner or later. Where's Bramblestar?" She muttered. Bluepaw froze.
"Urm...where is he?" She looked around for Berryflower or Bramblestar. "They disappeared! They were here a minute ago!" She muttered. We must have gotten left behind whilst we laughed, she thought. "BRAMBLESTAR IS WAITING FOR YOU, OH LOVING GIRLFRIEND." Whitepaw blurted out. Bluepaw growled in frustration. How could Whitepaw say something so stupid to such a respected senior warrior? Frozenleg's expression changed to a annoyed one. "Shut up. I'll find him myself." She hissed, stalking off. Whitepaw sniggered, but Bluepaw couldn't share her enjoyment. "You took that too far, Whitepaw." She snapped. Whitepaw looked astonished. She didn't reply, just trailed off. Bluepaw slid through the camp entrance, in a opposite direction to Whitepaw. Was her sister angry?
