"Happy birthday, Kaeya!" Venti said as he opened the door. Behind him were their friends who got invited.
Kaeya smiled and looked back at diluc.
"So, have you got a gift for me?" He asked, checking behind Diluc to make sure he wasn't hiding anything. Diluc only shrugged and glared at him.
"As if I would."
"How cold of you, brother." Kaeya replied in a sarcastic tone.
"Guys, now is not the time to act like this."  Jean interrupted.
"My, my. The grand master is right." Lisa took a seat next to kaeya and leaned on the counter. "He deserves a nice present, you know."
Kaeya broke in a sweat and Diluc's eyes widened. "Are we on the same page here?" Kaeya asked nervously.
"Lisa, don't say such things like that!" Barbara exclaimed.
Lisa chuckled and looked back at her. "Darling, I meant that innocently. Not everything I say is a flirt."
"O-oh…" Kaeya sounded relieved. He didn't think Lisa would make such a tone.
Jean cleared her throat to clear the atmosphere and put the cake on the counter. "Anyways! Let's give him our gifts now!"
Rosaria quietly sat on kaeya's left, giving him a wrapped bottle of wine. "Take this." she said.
"Thanks, Rosie."
"Call me that one more time, I dare you."
Kaeya waved his hands and smiled worriedly."I-I guess I won't!"
Suddenly, an arm wrapped around the two of them, and Venti's face popped up. "You two get along splendidly!" He teased. He looked up at Diluc, who was watching everything stoically.  "Diluc! can I get a bottle of dandelion wine?" Venti asked, holding up two fingers. "Normally, I'd say no. But today, I'll still say no." Diluc answered as his eyebrows furrowed. He then looked at kaeya, who had a pitiful expression on his face. "Awww, not even for your little brother?" Venti joined in and made the same expression. Diluc sighed, knowing there was no way out of this situation. "Fine, but only because it's your birthday." He turned around and looked for the wine, and poured a glass for Venti.
"Hey, what about me?" Kaeya asked. Diluc remained silent, but started making another drink. He got some absinthe and champagne, then poured each slowly into a glass. He then put ice into it and placed it in front of Kaeya.
"This is…"
"Death After Noon." Diluc finished kaeya's sentence, as he was too stunned to speak.
"I said I didn't have a gift, but consider this as one." He said with a soft tone in his voice.
"Aww, I wish my brother was here.." Lumine added. Diluc averted his eyes to Jean, who was looking at him. She blushed and looked down, admiring how caring he was. Diluc had a slight hint of red as Jean took a breath to say something. "Ireallyadmirehowmuchyoucareforyourbrotheranditmakesmewanttolookaftermysisterbettertoo!" Jean said, hurriedly.
"Oh, dear! Looks like someone's got a crush!" Lisa teased. Jean chuckled nervously and crossed her arms. Everyone in the room looked at the two of them and smirked. "L-lisa…" Diluc muttered. He clenched the counter tightly as his shoulders stiffened. As he looked down, he could see kaeya's glass was already empty. He looked up at Kaeya and saw him smirking at him, his face slightly flushed from the drink. "I may not remember this, but I'll make sure Lisa tells me this tomorrow."
"Shut up, you drunkard…" Diluc said quietly. He became more flustered and looked back at Jean. "My apologies, my….. brother.. can be a little stubborn at times."
"No, no! It's alright." Jean said, smiling.
There was an awkward silence, but it was soon broken by Venti.
"Enough with these lovebirds, for my gift will not be unheard! I made a song for the birthday boy which I hope you all enjoy!"
But before Venti could play his song, the door slammed open, revealing Albedo and Sucrose. "I'm sorry, I hope we're not late." Albedo said, calmly. "Were we.. interrupting something?" Sucrose asked, hiding behind Albedo. "Whatever, just listen." And again, before Venti could play, the door opened again and Bennett and Klee showed up. "Happy birthday, uncle Kaeya! I made a drawing for you!" Klee showed Kaeya the drawing and Bennett ran to hug him. "Bennett! Good to see you again! And nice drawing, Klee!" Kaeya smiled at the two of them and patted their heads.
"Wait, Bennett and Klee, together?!" Jean and Diluc exclaimed. "Bennett… did anything bad happen when you were with Klee?" Jean asked. "Well, I dropped my gift in the fountain, but overall nothing really bad happened. I guess it's my lucky day!" He replied. Jean sighed in relief as Diluc became less tense. "At least you guys are alright. So, how's your flame?" Diluc asked, with a slight grin on his face. "Bright and strong, master Diluc!" Bennett smiled at him and gave him a high five. Diluc's smile grew as he looked down at Klee. "Woah! You're smiling?" Her mouth was agape, seeing Diluc smile for the first time. Kaeya got confused until he looked back at Diluc, who was really smiling. "Oh, master Diluc! since when did you smile like that before?" He teased. Diluc quickly changed back to character and stopped smiling. He could feel everyone's eyes looking right at him as Bennett just seemed confused. Diluc's face grew flushed again, and tried to adjust his brooch.
"W-what are you all looking at…" he asked, nervously. "Ahem. Can I play the song now?" Venti asked again, this time annoyed. "Yeah, just start already." Jean answered, still in awe of how soft Diluc could be. And so venti played the song. His graceful and soft melody filled up the room, as Lumine nodded her head to the music. When he finished, everyone applauded, admiring his performance. "Pretty good for someone who drinks three bottles a day." Kaeya said sarcastically. "A little rude for someone with four layers of clothing." He replied, putting his lyre away. "Venti, that performance was as holy as an archon's!" Barbara exclaimed. "You see, I actually a-" Before he could finish, Jean cut him off. "A-Anyways! Time to eat the cake!" Barbara seemed confused, but didn't question further.
As the party went on with chaos and fun happening with every passing minute, Venti dared Kaeya to drink the whole bottle that Rosaria gave him. "That's one glass down! C'mon Kaeya you can do it!!" Venti patted him on the back, supporting him as Rosaria watched with an evil grin on her face. As Diluc was cleaning the plates and glasses, he noticed Rosaria.
"What drink did you give him?" He glared.
"Oh you know, some Chardonnay…" She said quietly. Diluc's eyes widened at the sudden realization. He tried to stop Kaeya but when he looked back, the bottle was already empty. There he was, with a drunk Venti cheering for him. "Interesting. I'm surprised he didn't pass out yet." Albedo said, taking a mental note for later. "Mr. Albedo, if I-" Sucrose was cut off by Albedo, not wanting another lecture from her. "Sucrose, I'm not going to make him drunk... for now." Sucrose sighed, fixing her glasses.
"Jean, did you tell Bennett to bring Klee home?" Diluc asked, afraid of what Kaeya might do in front of them.
"Don't worry, I did. Lisa and Barbara went with them too." She answered.
Diluc bent down looked at Kaeya again
"Kaeya, are you--" He stopped when he saw Kaeya, quietly crying as Venti wrapped an arm around his back.
"Venti, what happened?!" Diluc stood back up, furious.
"I didn't do anything! He just suddenly started crying and whispering 'sorry'!" Diluc panicked as Rosaria walked towards the exit.
"Hey! Where do you think you're going?!" Diluc exclaimed.
Rosaria opened the door and whispered under her breath "It's not like I did it." And left the tavern. "Kaeya?" Jean checked on him, to be left with no reply. The only thing that we let out was a sniffle as he wiped his tears.
She looked at Albedo and Sucrose, then back at Diluc. "I think you should take him home now, he'll probably forget about it tomorrow." Diluc nodded and looked at Venti. "You should probably leave too. I'll handle him."
"I guess I'll go. Thanks for the wine though." Venti said as he left with the others. Now it was just Kaeya and Diluc at the tavern, with the lanterns and moonlight lighting up the place. Diluc sighed and reached his hand out to kaeya. "Hey, we should leave. I'm gonna close the tavern now." He said softly. Kaeya held Diluc's wrist tightly and whispered on his breath. "Brother…. I hope you aren't mad at me. I-I…."
"Shhh.. It's alright. I don't want to see you all weak like this."
"B-but… I don't want to see you leave.. just like father."
"I won't. You know I'm stronger than that."
"But what if something bad happens? What if I won't be there?" Diluc could hear Kaeya's voice crack, and became more worried.
"Listen. I may be a little mad at you, but it's not your fault. If anything, it's mine for not being strong enough." Diluc walked past the counter and wrapped his coat around Kaeya. "C'mon, let's go. Its cold here at night."
Kaeya obliged and stood up, and he suddenly hugged him.
"Kaeya?"
"Diluc, thanks for that drink."
Diluc sighed and hugged him back.
"It's been a while since we hugged, huh.."
"It… feels nice."
