"Iz, don't ya think you should finish eating, sweetheart?" Duff laughed as he watched Izzy from his seat upon their towel on the beach.
Izzy looked up from where he was squatting, one hand combing through the sand as the other held a turkey sandwich he wasnt letting go of any time soon.
He had a mouthful of the sandwich when he locked eyes with Duff and smiled adorably before swallowing. "I'm looking for seashells, Duffy. This is serious business."
Duff giggled, turning to look over the mostly empty beach and lifted his Polaroid camera up to snap some shots.
Duff and Izzy were on a beach, the summer before their senior year of high school. They'd planned this out months before their Junior year had ended.
They promised each other they'd spend their entire Summer doing things almost everyday together. Duff would happily admit that he's seen Izzy's face far more more than he's seen any of his siblings' faces.
Mostly because they were all grown and living their own lives and Duff wanted to stay away from his house long enough to not hear his parents arguing.
Izzy didn't really talk about his home life, but he's told Duff enough. His mom is divorced and he has a half brother that lives with his dad back in Indiana.
He didn't seem to have any resentment toward either of his parents, but he's a lot closer to his mother. He likes to watch out for her.
But Izzy and Duff are only friends.
At least that's what Duff tells himself whenever Izzy slings his arms around Duff's skinny waist or when the brunette plays with his hair.
Duff had always thought Izzy was the most beautiful being to walk this planet— and Beyoncé existed!
When Duff look over, Izzy was still squatting over the sand, combing it for seashells with a mouthful of the devoured turkey sandwich he was too greedy to let go of.
"Look here, Iz..." Duff calls for Izzy's attention and tells the brunette to smile.
Izzy doesn't, but he makes the cutest face ever and Duff can't help but snap a picture.
"Hey!" Izzy giggles, shaking his head. "God, you take the most disgusting pictures of me."
Duff just laughs softly. "You're not disgusting, Iz, you're beautiful."
And the words slip before he even has time to register them, making the two freeze.
Izzy rolls his tongue against the inside of his cheek and Duff quickly begins to ramble out an apology, spewing on about how he 'didn't mean it like that', and 'well you are good-looking, but I didn't mean to come off that way'.
Izzy almost laughs at Duff's flustering and babbling, but he tells Duff that it's okay. "Thank you. No one's ever said that to me before."
