Scarlett

Today was eerily quiet, more so than usual. The rain lashed violently against my bedroom window.
Tonight was the night of the choosing.

Here's some context; every hundred so years a vampire will choose a girl to have in any way he likes. Not the most ideal thing but it's something that can't be stopped.

I stand up and walk downstairs my feet padding against the creaky floorboards.
"Nice of you to finally show your face Scarlett" my dad comments at me.
I sigh and just say hi back. I don't have much to say not after what is happening later tonight, which reminds me I still need to get dressed and ready.
"Why so quiet?"
I look up and my father not wanting to have conversation. "Just tired I guess" shrugging my shoulders.

I don't want to be apart the choosing it's was old fashioned and just down right weird. All girls that are over the age of 18 are required to participate. Not everyone gets taken and last year only three were.
I'm praying I'm not one of them.

A couple of hours have flown be after doing nothing all day. I step out of the shower my hair damp and my body still drying. Don't get me wrong I love getting all dressed up but not for shit like this. I only turned 18 a couple of months ago so if they say no this year I have to do it until I'm 25 then I have my freedom. I suppose the idea of it is so the vampire can find his 'mate' I don't really understand it.

I get my things ready I put my dress on my bed and do my makeup. Nothing too fancy but enough to make me not as plain.
By the time I finish my makeup my once damp hair is dry. I leave it down not wanting to be bothered to anything to it,leaving it straight.

I slip my dress in after checking the time. I have ten minutes to be there.

I slip my body in the dress, my cleavage exposed and my waist hugged gently by the dress. The dress is gorgeous but I'm starting to think it's too over the top.
I slip on some matching red heels giving me an extra few inches. Bigger is better am I right ladies?

I barely make it to the field,I'm panting from trying to run in these stupid heels and I can feel myself sweating.
There's a line of girls probably of around thirty all starting at me. Awks.
They all look stunning in there dresses. Most look scared and others unbothered I feel a mix of the latter,I have no idea what to expect whilst some girls are in there last year, unbothered about the whole situation.

I stand at at the end of line my head held high as a fire is lit in front of us. The breeze is crisp and the only sense of warmth is coming from the fire.
"Hi" I whisper to the girl next to me. She's wearing a gorgeous emerald dress and her brown wavy locks fall to her waist.
"Hello"
"My names Scarlett I say back to her.
Not all of the girls here come from this village so being friendly doesn't hurt and this girl seems nice.
"My names Amelia nice to meet you" she gives me a small smile, dimples appearing on her cheeks.
"Do you know what exactly is happening tonight" I whisper knowing that there are men standing by watching all of us making sure we don't try to rub before and during the choosing
"Sort of, I just know a few vampires will come choose who they fit best or their mate,I'm not sure after that sorry"
"What is a mate" I question her.
"I have no idea, let's just hope non of us are ever chosen because that would be pretty shitty and I need to have at least one sugar daddy before I die"

I cackle at her remark grabbing everyone's attention and not realising that there was 5 men watching. I can have a good guess at who they are.

My smile drops and turn away from facing Amelia and back to the front. Amelia just have seen them when I did as she stood rigid and a blank expression on her face.

The field goes silent and the only sound is the wind blowing through the thick trees that are next to us.

The first man to move has dark tousled hair and dark green eyes. He walks up to the first girl at the opposite end staring at her, looking up and down. He shakes his head and repeats the process for all of us. He comes to me and my breath hitches. His complexion is pale and he stands tall at around six foot. He looks me up and down, he once again shakes his head and walks off back to where he was originally standing. The same process is repeated with the others except a few girls got chosen, they all look terrified knowing their new fate.
A man-one of the guards speaks up "any one who has not been chosen is free-"
A figure emerges from the trees he walks slow. All of the girls not chosen turn and look hoping it's just some stranger and not another one wanting take us.
He comes closer practically standing in-front of us all. He looks at everyone, his eyes locking with different girls. I stare at him, his dark hair and golden eyes to his jawline and arms. I can't seem to divert my attention from him.
I look up back at his face and see him eyes pouring into mine.
He walks towards me, standing less than an inch between us. My breath hitches. He looks gorgeous underneath the moonlight, he's pale but not as much as the others were.

"You" his deep voice echoes throughout the field, making my hands slightly tremble.
He's taking me.
"No"
I walk off my heels getting stuck in the grass because I'm an idiot who didn't think about that. I finally reach a pavement able to run away more freely.
I look back seeing he's not there, maybe I'm too fast, probably not.
I smack into something hard. I feel hands grab my waist supporting me,my head snapping up.
"No? My princess you do not get to say no to me"
"What" I say looking at him.
He gives a hearty chuckle revealing his pointy fangs.
"Can you let go of me" I give him a dirty look
"No"
"What"
"I said no did I not princess"
I did the best thing that I could think of and clearly I wasn't thinking at all because I slapped him across his face.
His hands loosen up on my waist and I take this as opportunity to run. So that's exactly what I do.
My body gets slammed against a wall.
"Carry on being a brat I fucking dare you."
He comes closer, closer than I'd like.
"I don't get what your problem is but if you haven't got the hint 'princess' I'm not going with you. I don't want to be apart of this shitty tradition anyway"
"You're mine" I feel him coming even closer his chest against mine pushing my breasts up.
I say nothing, there's nothing to say.
He grabs my wrist pulling me back to the field, all the girls are gone and the ones that are there are with the other vampires.
My heels are now getting stuck in the ground to the point it's kissing me off. He's walking so quick that I cannot keep up.
"Can you not walk so damn quick my heels are getting stuck"
He looks at me and stops. He grabs me carrying bridal style.
"Look problem solved"
I scowl at him wanting to be out of this damn situation. I know when pick my fights and this isn't the time.
He started talking to the other men and I look at the others girls they all look them same-upset and scared. I feel for them wishing that this tradition wasn't a thing.

After about half an hour of waiting cars appear each girl and the vampire that chose them got in.
That left me and this freak together in a car alone.
He sat next to me, it's only been a few minutes and it's already awkward as hell.
"Where are we going" I break the silence that was hanging in the air since we got in the car.
"My home obviously" he looks at me scowling like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Ah yes because I was supposed to know that after you've practically kidnapped me" I swing my arms in front of me waving them around to show my annoyance with him.
"I haven't kidnapped you at all I'm simply taking what's mine" he looks at me and shrugs his shoulders.
All I can think is what the fuck have I got my self into.
