She had the perfect life, a perfect job, perfect house, and two perfect kids. Amelia Jones had everything anyone could ever want, ever. The house even had a white picket fence. She was the face of the American dream; or, so some would say. It was because of these recent occurrences that Amelia couldn’t figure out why she was so uneasy about it all. It was all just too perfect for her. Or maybe she had no experience with the word ‘perfect’ like other people did.
Her childhood was hardly what one would call perfect, and her husband had disappeared after her second child was born. But, before all of the white picket fences, and lemonade on hot summer days in hammocks, her life had been chaotic. It had started crumbling to pieces like an under baked cookie. At the time, she was only moments away from getting fired, and on top of that, she was barely making payments to cover their apartment, and since then, their electricity had been turned off. Twice.
And then, her life turned around, just like you see in the movies. She was offered a higher paying job where she could work from home while being with her children, and the office was even paying for her house out in the country. Amelia Jones had it all, and all was what everyone wanted. Her neighbors kept telling her that she had the perfect life everyone was envious of… and that she was in denial of how good she had it and how she should be utterly grateful for it all… but, she just couldn’t figure out what seemed so wrong with the situation. Amelia couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
