Lily Luna Potter woke up to the regular sounds of her mum cooking breakfast. She stretched and got out of bed. She had her own room because she was the only girl in the house – besides her mum of course – meanwhile, her brothers had to share a room.
She hurriedly got dressed, not wanting to miss out on her mum’s breakfast. It ought to be good, since school was just starting in a week. The Potter household was still waiting patiently for their Hogwarts acceptance letters, although Lily wasn’t so patient.
Lily rushed out of her room to see her two brothers, James Sirius Potter and Albus Severus Potter, rushing out of their room.
“I’ll beat ‘cha to breakfast Lily!” James and Albus chanted annoyingly, as they did every day.
“Sure you will,” Lily chanted back. They got ready to race to the kitchen.
“1… 2… 3…” James counted slowly. Albus and James rushed to the kitchen as James yelled, “Go!”
“Auuugh!” Lily yelled and tried to win the race. She didn’t.
“No fair!” She said, annoyed. Ginny shook her head, chuckling.
“Life isn’t fair, Lily.” Ginny stated simply. Lily groaned impatiently. Harry slowly walked to the kitchen table.
"Mornin'," Harry mumbled.
"Mornin' dad!" Lily exclaimed happily as though she had won the race earlier. She ran to Harry and gave him a big hug.
"Mornin' dad," Albus and James said in unison as though already bored. A knife went soaring out of a drawer.
The children ducked as they yelled, "Mum!" Harry chuckled.
"Sorry," Ginny mumbled, "I meant for it to come out of this drawer – " a drawer to the left of her flung open. "not that one." She used her wand to make ingredients and cooking utensils fly towards her.
A substance that looked something like pancake mix was being shook into a skillet, a wooden spoon was stirring the mix. Lily suddenly heard a tapping noise on, perhaps, a window. She hurried over to the only window in the kitchen. There was a muddy brown, barn owl
waiting to deliver The Daily Prophet. Lily opened the window and the owl soared onto the table.
Harry was now sitting down at the kitchen table. He pulled out a Knut and put it in a pouch that the owl had. The owl dropped the rolled up paper it was holding and flew out of the window. Lily had reached out to pet it, but it was long before she would've even felt a single feather on its silky body. She closed the window, a bit disappointed, and sat down beside her father.
Harry opened The Daily Prophet and began reading, in silence. Lily noticed on the back page, which was closest to her, there was a sale on owls. I could, Lily thought, maybe get one! She leaned closer to see the price. Suddenly, Harry folded up The Prophet. Lily groaned impatiently.
"Everything okay Lily?" Harry asked while putting The Prophet away.
"I wanted to see what the price was," Lily stated, her arms crossed.
"Aww did the wittle bwaby nwot get her twoy?" James mocked a voice that you would normally use when talking to a tike. Albus did a fake sobbing sound.
"Now boys," Ginny scolded wagging her wand at them, causing a spatula to fly at them, "oops!" She quickly flicked her wand at the drawer and the spatula flew there instead. The boys chuckled. Harry pulled out The Prophet out again and looked at the back.
"Oh, look at this," Harry said smugly, "A sale on owls." Albus and James rolled their eyes.
Albus said annoyingly, "I guess the little bwaby can get her toy," he said bwaby with emphasis. Lily smiled.
"You're just jealous," Lily stated smugly.
"'Am not," The boys stated in unison
"'Am too."
"'Am not."
"'Am too!"
"'Am n – "
"Children!" Ginny yelled, "You are giving me a headache, please stop!" She pointed her wand at them.
"Yes, mum!" The children yelped in unison. Ginny turned back to the now burning pancakes. Suddenly, three more owls appeared at the window. Albus ran over to open it this time. The owls flew to each kids spot at
the table, dropped their parchment, and flew out the window. Albus closed the window and sprinted to his seat. Lily began to open the two pages. The first one said:
