hey before the chapter starts, this is your ocassional reminder that scaramouche is canonically good looking </3 also i hope you have a good day/night/??? and there's a oversimplified reference in this chapter
Scaramouche had acclimated himself to living in a complete stranger's home, and other than being ocassionaly alienated by the thought of relying upon some puny comoneer, he was doing okay. He decided to give the man basic services to not seem like a vermin on Sho's house, Sho being the previously mentioned man. It started as simple help with cooking and some cleaning at most and it ended with Scaramouche working on the man's small orchard.
Half a week passed. Scaramouche made plans as his relationship with Sho grew, even slighly. He decided that, in order to look like an ordinary young man, he had to get new clothes.
"Hello, Sho, um, do you know any good places where I can buy new clothes? Not necessarily stilish, something practical will do fine."
"Oh, of course I do, 'dish! - it was Scaramouche's little nickname. - You can buy some from the local tailor, I got my clothes from there. I can show you the way if you need to, the village is small but you might go into somebody's house on accident!"
"Oh, that'd be terrible. But you'd do me a massive favor if you went to the shop for me. If that's okay with you, of course."
"Oh, it is! Whatever you need, dish. What size do- I mean, how tall are you?"
"Umm... I'm about 1,63 I think."
"Okay. What clothes do you need?"
"Please buy me a full outfit, or whatever you think would look good on me. You can keep the rest."
Scaramouche handed over about 90.000 mora on a bag.
"But-, but 'dish, this is a lot of money! Are you sure you're not going to need it?"
"I have a couple more mora too, not too much but it's enough. It's for emergencies."
After being confirmed by Scara that it was okay for him to take the money, the older of the two said goodbye as he walked out of the door. Afterwards, Scaramouche was left alone to dive in his thoughts, and he wondered how what was a "small couple o' mora" was probably more than what Sho had ever seen. Sadly, he couldn't tell his trusty housemate the truth about his richness, Fatui-ness and runningaway-ness. This enraged him, though not greatly.
Sho came back after a while with the clothes. Out of modesty, he tried to give Scaramouche back the amount of of money that was left from buying his new oufit, but he rejected and insisted that he should keep it. At the end, he was convinced with a bit of remorse, and he gave the clothes to "Dish" back. Scaramouche changed onto the new clothing. It was significantly cheaper and less "royal" than his old outfit but it wasn't ugly at all, and it was pretty comfortable.
Maybe it just looked good on him because he was beautiful and not just an ugly peasant, maybe the clothes weren't ugly at all.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Sho. The clothes are very comfortable and beautiful, too."
Scara wished that he didn't have to treat a guy that was probably way younger than him as "sir", but not everything you wish for can come true.
