Introduction to Fe.

I threw my head back in complete and utter bliss, letting my fine white hair extend down and tickle the back of my legs. My high-pitched giggling sliced through the kitchen making my mother sharply turn towards me.

 “Felitta!’ She said using my full name showing her disapproval at my laughter. Her own white hair was plaited tightly, not a single hair out of place. She wearing the traditional Sinfleta hairstyle, complete with a blue flower behind her left ear, showing her status and age. “Let me braid your hair Fe, if someone came in and saw you…” She trailed off, hinting at the possibility.

I rolled my eyes at her paranoia. “Yakitok, who would come in without warning?” Using the traditional Sinfleta name for mother to butter her up. I widened my green eyes at her for extra effect. The barely there smile she gave me showed me that I was forgiven straight away.

 Sometimes I felt deep pity for my mother, I knew she wished for a traditional daughter, who always braided her hair and never dared to laugh or smile showing her teeth. But I was not a traditional daughter, I hated braiding my hair and loved to laugh and dance and say how I feel. Sinfleta people were not meant to say how we feel. I had heard the lecture from my mother a thousand times, and I’m sure I’ll hear it a thousand times more. ‘Sinfletans are an ancient race Fe, for thousands of years we have lived in these forests safe and mysterious to outsiders. Why must everything change now?

I continued around the kitchen dancing in joy but also lost in my thoughts. All I wished for was to be like the humans. But Sinfletans hate humans; they were seen as the least pure race, it was their killing that made Sinfletans despise them. But sometimes it felt like being able to not truly been yourself was worse than dying.

 Hello! Okay so this is just a small chapter to get to know Fe. So incase you are confused:

·      Sinfleta: an ancient and secret race, humans do not know about them. They believe in magic but are not necessarily magical apart from the royal family.

·      The traditional Sinfleta braid is two french braids that then come together and are joined together into one. It is seen as wrong to not have your hair braided unless it is in front of your husband.

·      Smiling and laughing while showing your teeth was something that Sinfletans do not do because it seen as being ungraceful.
