Chapter 1 ~here i am~

I walked through the school halls, alone, as usual. But at least I was here. I mean sometimes that was all you could ask for. To be here, to be alive. My phone buzzed in my pocket bringing out of my deep thought.

"Hello?" I knew it was my parents or the hospital.... Maybe even Michael. He hadn't talked to me in three months though so I didn't assume it was him.

"Sweetheart! You're gonna be so happy!" My mother's high pitched voice screeched through the phone and caused me to flinch.

"What is it?" I asked cautiously. I couldn't get my hopes up just yet.

"Test results came back! Apparently your lungs are beginning to clear!" I could hear the smile in my mom's voice and I knew that soon my facial expression would match hers.

I was diagnosed with lung cancer only three years ago, when I was fourteen. Since then it had been constant treatments and nights at the hospital. I could still remember the day I had gotten the news.

"Darling hold still" The doctor scolded me as I wriggled around under the CT scan. Slowly i saw the laser rise up me and I felt a small tingle.

" Mummy, why am I getting a CT scan?"I asked for the millionth time but she just smiled at me... she never answered. I had been feeling pain in my lungs for a few months now, but recently it had become unbearable. The night before I had awoke in the night crying because of the sting, and now here I was.

"Ma'am we have the test results" A rather old man with a doctor's unifrom came in the room, his eyes heavy.

"Well what are they?" she sounded nervous, anxious.

"Your daughter has lung cancer.'"

That was a horrible day. Little did I know things would only get worse..

My name is Lauren Santion and I am a 17 year old who survives with lung cancer. I had beautiful black hair that flowed down my back in waves. It hadn't fallen out yet but it was just a matter of time. I had large violet eyes that people said could pierce the soul, but recently the fire in them- in me- had died out. I was short and skinny. I lost weight easily from the medication, but it wasn't healthy. I felt someone throw an wad of paper at me and I turned around to see Jan, she was a year younger than me, a junior. She was my closest friend but we didn't talk in school. Only once we were home. I laughed and gave her the middle finger as a joke before walking to the sidewalk. My dad was picking me up because I wasn't allowed to drive.

"Hop in sweetheart, I figure we should pick you up a milkshake before we take off to the hospital" my dad yelled as he pulled up.

Hospital. I had never hated a place so much
