After that I only had a few more days of staying at the hospital and therapy, and every single day I would hold my breath while we passed his door. Sometimes he would notice me, other times he wouldn't. Whenever he did, he smiled, making me turn into jelly. The best part was, he joined me in physical therapy as they taught me how to walk again. His nurse brought him in on a wheel chair as well. He was wearing the loose fitting hospital robe, but his muscles still accentuated. He looked unbelievably fit for a guy of sixteen or seventeen.
I watched as he tried to stand up. His legs were shaking from the effort and he was wincing slightly as he pushed himself up. He wrapped his arms around himself to keep from falling apart, while two doctors held onto his arms. He slowly indicated for them to let go and as they did he stood up for a full ten seconds, breathing heavily the entire while. He tried grasping the wheelchair and almost fell if not for the two burly doctors by his side. "Watch it Alex. You'll rip out your stitches." One of them scolded him. He didn't mind though, he only looked happy at his accomplishment. He looked up and saw me staring at him like the idiot I was and a grin broke across his mischievous face. He waved to me and then winced. His nurse smacked his hand down before his could hurt himself further.
My gossip loving nurse rolled me towards the same station he had been working at. "Hey." He looked towards me. "Aren't you the girl who's stalking me?" His accent was British and tempting.
"Um...I'm...no...but." I whimpered pathetically.
"Relax just kidding. I'm Alex. And you are?" He held out a polite hand. I gripped it firmly and shook it. I hated when people didn't have firm handshakes, it made me uncomfortable.
"I'm Gwen. Nice to finally meet you." My voice had quickly lost its patheticness, but I was still very nervous.
He laughed. I liked the sound; very sexy. Don't get me wrong, I'm still wrapped all around David, but that didn't mean I couldn't appreciate a Greek god on earth when I saw one. "It's nice to meet you too." He grinned again. Then he looked down at the braces around my legs and my wrist. "How did you do that?" He was politely curious.
"Horse back riding. I fell and my horse got spooked."
"Ah, that sucks." He seemed genuinely sincere, but I got a hint that there was more to his sudden mood change than that.
"Do you ride?" I asked.
He raised his arm to mess up the back of his blond head, but brought his arm down with a wince. His other hand directly flew to cover his stitches. "I can ride, but I don't like to."
"Really? Why? It's so much fun, the wind in your face, what's not to like?" I was disappointed.
"Its uncomfortable, if you know what I mean." He grinned again and I couldn't help but laugh with him. His every expression was vivid, unreal.
"I guess I could understand that."
"Yeah." He nodded still smiling.
"So what about you? How did you end up here?" I was curious too, especially after I had seen him come in drenched with blood. His grin faltered a little, but it was back so quickly, I couldn't even be sure that it was gone in the first place.
"I'm not at liberty to say." His tone was mischievous like his grin, but I could sense that he wasn't joking.
"Aww Come on you can't just..." I was cut off of my complaint by one of his doctors.
"Come on Stone, let's get you back. I don't have all day."
"Saved by the doctor." I smiled at him.
"Yeah." He smiled back. "I hope I'll see you around Gwen." He added over his shoulder as his doctor wheeled him away.
"Me too." I called. I could see his handsome face still smiling as he was led out.
"Now if you're done flirting, can we please start your physical therapy?" My nurse asked with a grin. I knew it would be useless to argue with her so I just rolled my eyes and tried to walk with the wooden beams for support. I couldn't help but wince with every step.
