Olivia
I sat in science class my eyes constantly drifting from the board to the clock. Honestly there's something sinister about the speed in which time passes in class. I yawn tiredly resting my head on my hands trying to keep my eyes open as my professor makes direct eye contact with me. Maybe my lie to Melanie wasn't a total lie, I could easily take a nap right now. Half an hour left, I can do this. I do this everyday. I'm a trooper.
There's a sudden knock on the door snapping the snoring students from sleep. All eyes are on the classroom door as Mr. Hicks opens the door halfway blocking the audience from the person at the door. The class is silent as all curious eyes are fixed on the door. After a few minutes of whispering the door creaks open revealing our principal, Mrs. Walker, with the boy I met in the grocery store only yesterday.
"Students of Midwest High, I introduce you to our new student, Cade Moore. I expect you all to make him feel the utmost welcome." Principal Walker smiled tightly making us all know she meant business.
Danielle tapped me on the shoulder repeatedly demanding my immediate attention.
"What?!" I snap turning around.
Danielle ignored the obvious irritation in my voice and smiled dreamily "He's handsome isn't he?"
"Dani, you're in a relationship, how dare you betray your man!" I gasped dramatically swatting her arm.
"Doesn't mean I can't appreciate the obvious eye candy in front of me." She sighed looking at Cade as if he were a Reese's Cup she was prepared to devour.
"Fair enough." I smirked turning around to face the class as our Principal continued speaking.
"Cade has recently moved from Alaska and will be attending here for the remainder of his highschool education." Mrs. Walker shared feigning excitement.
Cade nodded and his eyes scanned the room, landing on me. He smiled easily giving a small wave to me resulting in the class turning to find the mystery person he was waving to.
I waved back trying to keep my blush at bay.
Mrs. Walker caught the small exchange and her eyes lit up and quickly exclaimed "Olivia will be your buddy as you settle into our school, we want to ensure you have a great experience here!"
"I'd be honoured." I answered sarcastically leaning back in my seat earning a few chuckles from classmates.
Mr. Hicks and Mrs. Walker exchanged a few words and quickly Cade was seated next to me and the lesson on the nervous system resumed.
"You didn't seem too excited to be assigned as a buddy to the devilishly handsome new kid?" Cade raised an eyebrow smirking.
"Wow you picked up on that? You are just SO insightful!" I mumbled rolling my eyes.
"You're quite spiteful for a girl of your height." He nodded gesturing my frame of 5'3 cheekily.
"My apologies from coming off that way, I just do enough babysitting on my weekends to be excited for volunteer babysitting." I smiled.
"Ouch that hurts." Cade murmured sadly letting his head drop onto the desk theatrically making a loud SMACK resonate throughout the classroom.
"SHH!" I hit him upside the head before Mr. Hicks turned around and glared in our directions.
Cade sat up chuckling and focused his gaze on the board with a hint of a smile tuning into the lecture while I wondered what the heck I was getting myself into.
