She lifted her skirt for a second and took a deep breath as to curtsy but pivoted and dashed after making brief eye contact with the smirking prince in front of her, leaving the once smug face with narrow eyes and an annoyed scowl.
She sprinted through the hallways to the garden outside the castle. She bit her lip and cursed at herself.
Oh, shitesticks. The mixer dance outside. Oh, fiddleboppers. I'm screwed. She thought to herself as she tried to tiptoe to estimate the exit point.
She caught the gaze of a familiar face and grinned at her accomplice. Bingo. Sim Jaeyun, also known as Jake Sim
She widened her eyes as she got pulled into the dance. Her poofy dress was nearly in ruins now. Oddly, no one really noticed that. She searched for the boy amidst the crowd while keeping an eye out for a certain royal.
When she spotted her associate, she felt relief but tensed back up when she saw a violin in his hands.
She felt a dreadful feeling in her chest as she saw the Ice Prince™ and her supposedly loyal accomplice standing beside each other talking for a second before she was swept away and the next time she was able to take time to look around (without seeming suspicious), the ice prince was nowhere to be found.
The betrayer on the other hand was on a small podium playing the violin.
A melancholy yet sweet and lively tune echoed throughout the crowded area causing everyone to stop dancing the slow waltz and stare for a second or two.
This gave her the opportunity to scamper away. The crowd decidedly caught onto the beat and started moving faster and the intent to move out of the crowd proved fruitless and all it did was send her to the center of the ring they were moving.
The unsuspecting girl jumped when she heard the traitor's voice ring out.
Years ago
When I was younger
I kinda liked
A girl I knew
She had to admit, Sim had an exceptional set of vocal chords which he allegedly used very well to tell lies.
She gasped as a cold pair of hands settled on her exposed back. She was too scared to look up as she knew what was going on. Precisely.
"Not very good at choosing your accomplices, are you, sweetheart? choosing my own childhood friend to work for you without knowing his connection..." Sunghoon smirked as he taunted the spy.
She was mine
and we were sweethearts
That was then,
but then it's true
Sunghoon's head shot up, grip never faltering. He looked at the singer, who was looking right at them and had the corners of his lips turned up. Sunghoon had a faint idea of what was going on.
The look on the deceiver's face was clear that he was mocking the embarrassing history both she and Sunghoon had.
"I hate you, your friend, your stupid status, your outfit, and MOSTLY your stupid face" She hissed as she felt him breathing down her neck. She felt his breath hitch as she waited for his smart-ass reply.
"Believe me, I know. the knife you have pressed at my back is as sharp as your hate, dear" He responded with a sneer in his voice, slightly pained.
"The snipers that are aiming at me are no less, you know?" She said in a purposeful nasal voice while gazing at the red spots that looked like there were red, glowing LEDs moving around slightly, inside her dress.
Jake spotted them in the crowd and widened his eyes and continued singing in desperate hope they wouldn't kill each other until they confessed.
Every day we started fighting
Every night we fell in love
No one else could make me sadder
But no one else could lift me high above
I don't know what I was doin'
But suddenly we fell apart
Sunghoon took a deep breath and convinced himself that a friend that you have known for nearly 2 decades is not worth killing.
"I think we both know what's going on..." she said.
She rested her head on his chest as a sign of giving up and dropped her blade, shocking Sunghoon even further.
He signaled the snipers to lower their guns as the blades on her were now lost.
He held her so gently and rocked her back and forth. He felt like he was holding a porcelain doll. beautiful but risky. So fragile yet endured so much heat, because after all, that's what they were trained to do.
I'm in love with a fairytale
Even though it hurts'
Cause I don't care if I lose my mind
I'm already cursed
She looked up and lost herself in his eyes and the pace picked up. They spun and twirled each other like there was no tomorrow and there wasn't anyone to stop them. It was like they were in a trance so strong, it was hard to get out of. A lot like the faerie dances.
Amongst the chaos, she had lost her shoes and she could feel the bare grass scratching at her feet and she danced around enchanted y the music and even more so by the man in front of her.
She's a fairytale
Yeah
Even though it hurts
'Cause I don't care if I lose my mind
I'm already cursedBy the time the song ended, she managed to shake herself awake and was horrified at herself, as much as it pained her to have realized what she did, it pained Sunghoon even more to see the regret on her face.
She took several steps back and ran a bit before unexpectedly turning around. She curtsied to the royal who bowed back sadly.
She whispered to herself, "Maybe in another life."
He whispered to himself, "I wish I had more time."
The instruments stopped playing. It was an illusion after all.
