I whisked through the forest, making fine use of my new boots, bestowed to me by my father for my birthday last week. I was now of age, year twenty.
Father only came on my mother and I's birthday's and special nymph occasions, in secret of course. Everyone in the village hated Father. Except for my mum, my best friend Amarantha and I. He always bestowed gifts of great wealth or importance, and he gave me boots of speed for my twentieth. The boots were indeed speedy, and I made a point to polish them each night before I slept. I didn't want dirt and mud to ruin the beautiful glimmer of steel and cobalt.
I stopped and gripped one of the vines near me as I came upon what looked to be a great cobble wall. A wall? Why in the world? I looked east behind the wall and realized why. The purple ground was once again on its path towards the town, it's inhabitants, and the tribes of nymphs and elves surrounding the area.
"Oh my Mianite..." I heard my partner in crime sigh as she finally caught up to me. "I may not like your father as much as you do, but he can give some damn good presents. I wanna be his second daughter, like damn." I laughed and turned serious again.
"The purple ground is back, Amarantha. We... we have to warn the tribes, the town... Somebody!"
"Could it have to do with the sky tribe?" She asked and I stared at her green tinted face.
"What. Sky Tribe." I said gritting my teeth.
"Oh Mianite... the news hasn't traveled to your tribe apparently..."
"Apparently not... Or the chief is keeping the information from us." I said quietly and took my quiver off my back. "I've always thought that good for nothing chief kept things from the rest of the tribe!" I took an arrow and notched it in my bow, and aimed at the top of the wall.
"Don't. You might accidentally hit someone inside the wall." She said, always being the voice of reason.
"Oh come on, Ran. I won't hit any one." I let the arrow fly, and was happy with my aim, until I heard a screech of pain.
"Shit! Run!" I yelled, swung my quiver onto my back and ran west towards the village. I was about halfway home when I heard the horn. "No.... no... no! Amarantha! Where in the NETHER are you?!"
"I'm coming! Calm down!" I heard her small voice say somewhat in the distance.
"How can I calm down when I let that arrow fly??? I'll be in sooo much trouble with the tribe, and the village for Mianite's sake... The village! WHAT IF I GET BANISHED, RAN???"
She appeared next to me suddenly. It nearly gave me a heart attack. She hugged me as I started shaking. "You know for a fact that the village will not banish you. If they do... They know that they'll be suffering the wrath of Dianite. And Mianite knows none of them want that. None of them want the children fearing the entire realm as much as they fear... I should be quiet."
"No, what were you going to say?"
"As much as they fear Dianite. You do know the only people not afraid of your father are you, myself and your mother, correct?" She undid my hair and started to braid it quickly.
"No, I thought they all just despised him. Except you, my mother and I." I looked above me at the jungle forest roof. "I've never really trusted Mianite... Then again... I don't trust Ianite that much either. Or father sometimes... I've never really trusted the gods." She secured the braid with a vine and stood herself up.
"You'll have to bring that up with the tribe and the village... You heard the horn. Let's go."
I stood up and hugged her. "Thank you, Ran. Really. Now, do you want to use pearls, your ring, or my ring? Cause being invisible and flying really freaks me out."
