I could not sit still during assembly. Roslyn was no where, the latest rumour stated she was sick at home. I had my eyes focused on the front of the hall. The Drama Club was putting on some play or the other. The sole focused my fingers was the furious tapping on the touch screen. Katy had given me her spare phone. The BBM application was open and I kept sending alerts to Roslyn.

Roslyn had yet to answer a single summon. I have never felt so frustrated in my entire life. Assembly seemed to be dragging along. I could not even excuse myself to go to the bathroom. The teachers wouldn't have allowed me to do that anyway.

I always sat at the very back of the gallery. Teachers paid very little attention to that corner. It was a slight advantage over other students but I only saw it as a gift that needed to be exploited.

I slipped the phone inside my blazer pocket and put the vibrate function on. This was driving me crazy. I lifted my hand to my mouth. My teeth gripped on the nail of one of my fingers and prepared to bite down- hard.

The nail refused to break as it was hardened by the nail varnish I bought specifically for that reason. Frustration clouded my mind and I watched the assembly drag on in numb silence.

Finally it was over and Mrs Gates dismissed the school. I felt relieved to get out of the hall. The air washed away most of the stress that accumulated in the last thirty minutes.

I felt the phone vibrate against my breast. My heartbeat quickened and my reactions slowed down.
Talk to you later, Rose

That was all the text read. It was a good enough answer. She had acknowledged the need to talk.
