The golden rays of the summer sun bathed the mountainous range of the Himalayas casting a bright ochre hue on the mountains making the scenery as picturesque as possible.
Nestled in the snow capped mountains was Almora, with its narrow winding paths and rustic charm seemed to pulse with a timeless rhythm to time. It was a world apart from the ever hustling cities.Small, thatched roof houses clustered together , walls painted in earthly hues and intricate designs exuding the vibrant culture of the town brimmed with energy as the morning hours set in, the scenes of freshly baked roti and brewing masala chai mingled with the crisp morning air.
In a quaint locality of the town stood the sprawling ancestral home of the Mathurs, the nameplate carved out of oak wood with carefully designed lucid font which read 'Preethikar Haveli' which translated to loveable abode. True to its meaning the walls stood there for years along echoing with laughter, memories and stories of generations.
Years ago, Mathur cousins were inseparable. Every summer vacation was a tapestry of adventures, from exploring unknown nooks in the town to sharing their secrets sitting on the terrace of the house, they were bound by a deep knot of friendship on top of their familial ties.
Eshanya ; as a cue to her name she was the purest soul anyone would meet, was the one who everyone would look up to , Naksh ; being the imaginative one who was the binding force between all of them with his protective instincts, Manyata ; the quiet observer with a sharp mind who would always be there for anyone whenever they wanted someone to listen to them, Akshat ; the mischievous prankster with a heart of gold and Vanya ; the one with a penchant for storytelling.
Time as it often does played the cards of life and pulled them apart. School, then college and finally the burden of career had taken them to different corners of the world leaving their childhood bond just as a fond memory.
Life had thought it was enough for the cousins and gave them another chance to reunite when the news of their elder brother Naksh getting engaged brought the family back to the ancestral town and that very house. It was probably the first time they were together in years.
Amidst the celebration, the cousins found themselves being drawn together once more, their initial awkwardness giving way to the camaraderie of their youth. It was during one of the quieter nights as the cousins sat on the terrace of their house as they used to do in their childhood watching the night sky and adoring the stars when the idea of a cousin's trip struck. An adventure before the responsibilities of adulthood engulf them. It was a spontaneous thought born out of the desire to reclaim a part of their past and forge new memories together.
Little did they know that this journey would be more than just a nostalgic trip down the memory lane. It would be a journey of rediscovery, healing and the rekindling of a bond that even time could not sever.
