My eyes flutter open, adjusting to the suddenly bright room. "Can I come to school with you today?" Rux asks, suddenly appearing inches from my face.
"Ah! R- Rux? Don't scare me like that!" He shakes his head, his silky black hair going all over the place. Should I take him to school?
It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but a teacher isn't just going to let him in the classroom when she doesn't know him. But I can't say no to those pleading blue eyes. "S- Sure. But let me clean you up. And you have to listen!"
"Really?"
I nod, swallowing nervously.
"Yay!" Rux says, his wolf form turning on as he runs in circles. There goes that pair of clothes.
"Hey! Let's get you a bath since we have time."
What I forgot to keep in mind was Rux is wild, he doesn't know how a bathtub works, or shampoo, or soap. Which means someone has to help him, which means someone has to see him naked. . . Again.
"Are you going to take this bath too?" Rux asks, looking up.
"Yes, I suppose I am. But put this on." I pass him a swimsuit, I don't want to see all that. I wear my own swimsuit, getting in the tub as he follows me.
"Wow, this is nicer than I thought," He says. He's way too close to me.
"Y- Yeah. Now get your hair wet first."
"Who is this?" The teacher looks at me strictly. From their seats, Justin and Max look up at me like I'm crazy.
"This is Rux, foreign exchange student. It's his first day and the principal asked me to show him around!" I smile, waving a hand towards the wolf in human form.
He wears tight black jeans, ripped at the knees. His shirt is white and reads AC/DC with a photo of the band. His hair shaggy as always, yet so much cleaner and any knots were brushed out. His face is lightly freckled, his blue eyes glowing happier than ever. "It is nice to meet you ma'am!" I taught him a few polite words on the way here, knowing my first hour teacher named Mrs. Green was strict.
Mrs. Green wore her hair in a tight bun, and yet so many stray hairs messily slip out. Her glasses have a long band around it, and the glasses look exactly what you'd expect them too. She wears a fancy purple coat with a white button up. Her pants are beige, a little darker than her skin tone. She's an older lady, a scowl always on her face. "Where are you from?" She asks impatiently. First hour is simultaneously the worst and best class to have her in, lets just say she knows how to wake you up in the morning.
"Shakesp-"
"Really tiny, old country. You've probably never heard of it. No one I've met so far has." I smile, hoping she won't push him for an answer.
She sighs, clearly in a good mood today. "Just sit down, I have a class to start."
Max and Justin sit at their table of two, and Rux sits beside me at the table next to theirs. The teacher instantly begins her class, but I tune her out. Rux looks at the teacher with his full attention, studying the board. His brows furrowed, as he holds back a tear. What? "What's wrong?" I ask him, tapping his shoulder."
"What does that say?" He asks, nervously.
That's right, he's a wolf. He probably doesn't know how to read. I whisper as low as I can, not wanting the teacher to hear us. "The civil war of eighteen sixty one to five. This is a US history class."
He nods, but still looks sad.
"Hey." I grab his cheek, making him look at me as I rub it. His eyes look down at me. "It's ok, I'll teach you all this stuff."
"You will?" He asks. I can feel his cheek begin to heat up, he looks into my eyes admiringly which is weird since mine are so bland and brown. Just like my hair.
I nod, but quickly realize how much we're staring, how close we are, how I'm holding his cheek. I yank back, putting all my attention on Mrs. Green. He does the same, but we end up making eye contact every now and again.
