Girl Next Door (KaeMaki fanficiton)

Chapter 1

"Maki roll!" I heard kaito, my friend shouting my name or the name I'm used to getting called by. 

-"What?" 

-"What?" Isn't a way to greet your friend but I'll make an exception because you're my sidekick!

I sighed. Kaito always sees me as his "sidekick" and him being the "hero" even thought most of the times it's me who has to clean his messes.

-"why did you call me here? You usually just text me" I tried to not sound concerned one bit

-"so maki roll, I know you're not used to being friendly with others and stuff but I think you should change that. I talked to this girl, she wants to meet you since I've talked so much about you"

-"well you ARE right about one thing, it's that I'm not friendly with others so you can tell her to not waste her time coming here"

-"but she's going to be here any minute, can't you give it a shot?"

I can't believe kaito just decides who I want to hang out with himself. That girl probably isn't even worth it, but I have no choice, I can't just walk away.

-"fine, I'll stay"

-"great! I'm happy for you my little maki roll"

-"don't say stuff like that, people around here might think we're a couple"

-"is that a problem?"

-"is that a problem?" Of course it is, I'm a lesbian."

-"hehe, I'm just joking with you maki. Welp, see ya"

-"huh? You're leaving?"

-"yeah, I don't really want to get in the way of you two talking haha"

-"oh...alright, goodbye kaito"

-"goodbye maki!" Kaito said as he walked back where he came from.

I just sat on a bench that was next to me and waited for the girl to arrive. While I was alone with my thoughts someone snapped me from it.

It was a girl with blonde hair, pink and white outfit with a white bag. Her fashion seemed like the absolute opposite of mine. I thought to myself "when did kaito meet this girl?"

-"hi there! Are you maki roll?"

-"it's just maki, maki roll is a nickname of mine"

-"oh! My apologies, I didn't know that" "kaito says so many things about you though."

-"yeah..."

-"I'm kaede, it's very nice to meet you maki" she sat next to me on the bench.

She seemed like a very friendly and nice girl maybe a bit too friendly because she sat so close to me I couldn't help but blush. I changed my position so that we wouldn't be as close

-"hey maki, what do you think of piano music? Or just music in general"

-"I don't really care about music"

-"h-huh? Not even a little bit?" Her smile faded, I could tell I hurt her feelings just by one sentence so I tried my best to make the situation better.

-"I like the quite more but piano music is relaxing I guess"

-"phew, I'm glad. You know I really love playing the piano, it's like...the only thing I'm good at, haha." "Do you have something you're good at maki?"

-"no" 

-"that's a pretty straight forward answer, there has to be SOMETHING you can do"

-"it's not that I can't it's just that I don't want to" after a said that a small awkward silence filled the air "why did kaito even tell you to come here, we're the exact opposites of each other, there's no way we'd be friends"

-"I think differently. Everyone has their differences but there must be something we have in common" "let's see....how about we go to the park?"

-"I'm not a fan of parks"

-"we can still enjoy it! Cmon let's go!" She took my hand 

-"h-h-hey!" It was so sudden I started to feel my cheeks getting warmer

Kaede invited or better to say "dragged" me to the park. There were many rides that seemed fun to children but I had absolutely no interest in them.

We spent some time at the park. The experience sums up to kaede being excited and me showing no interest. After what felt like hours we came back to the exact same spot we met in

-"so maki, what did you think?" Kaede asked waiting for me to give her an enthusiastic response 

-"i can't say it was awful so..."

-"...w-well, I'm still happy you didn't hate it" Kaede gave a warm smile

-"whatever"

-"thank you, maki. You're a nice girl" her complement felt like she was either being polite or was pitying me because of my lack of social skills.

-"I hope it wasn't hard for you to get here" kaede asked

-"no, my house isn't very far from here. It's just at the end of the road" after I said that kaede's Eyes lightened up and she gasped

-"really!? Me too!" She jumped at me, I've never seen someone so excited before

-"you should definitely come to my house!" Like other things I wasn't interested in going in someone's house, especially someone I don't know but Kaede had this aura that made me feel like if I rejected her offer, I'd regret it instantly.

-"hmm..." I looked at my watch. It was 8 AM. "Fine, I don't have anything better to do."

-"yay! I'm glad!" She took a deep breath and finally calmed down "let's go" Kaede said

Me and Kaede started walking towards my house which was right next to hers, my mind kept thinking of the 'girl next door' trope one of kaito's friends keeps talking about. I didn't know why I excepted her so quickly, thankfully I knew how to defend myself if something bad happens.
