His surroundings were spinning, Yuki was seriously regretting walking home. He was hunched over, trying to lessen the pain in his stomach. He was couldn't figure out if he was going to faint or going to be sick again.
Tohru ran down the streets of her town, calling for Sohma. She was so worried, all she could think of was finding him.
"Sohma!" She called, turning a corner and suddenly stopping.
There, sitting on the ground, hunched over and groaning, was Yuki.
"Sohma!" Tohru called, rushing towards him.
"Ms Honda?" Yuki's shaky voice spoke. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to find you. The nurse told me you went home sick, and I couldn't let you wander the streets alone."
"I appreciate you worrying, but I'm..."
Yuki couldn't finish his sentence, he was too exhausted, dizzy and cold.
"You cannot tell me you're fine." Tohru said, "You're sick, really sick."
Tohru gently placed her hand on Yuki's forehead, "You feel so hot. We need to get you home."
Yuki tried to move, but his stomachache kept him grounded.
"Ok, walking is out of the question." Tohru said, panicked.
Tohru thought for a moment, "I have an idea." She said, reaching out and hugging Yuki.
He transformed into a rat, his clothes scattered across the floor. Tohru packed Yuki's clothes into her bag, gently picked up the small rat in her hand and made her way towards Shigure's house.
"I'm sorry, Yuki." Tohru said, "This is all I could think to do."
"Don't apologise, Ms Honda." Yuki answered, curling himself into a ball.
"Why did you say you weren't feeling well?" Tohru asked.
"I didn't want to make you worry." Yuki answered.
"That's why you didn't eat much at breakfast, because you felt sick." Tohru said.
"Mm, it really was delicious Ms Honda, but..."
Just the thought of food made Yuki gag. He covered his mouth with his paws, not wanting to be sick on Ms Honda's hands.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't mention food if you feeling sick." Tohru said, "I wasn't thinking, sorry."
Yuki looked up at Tohru, his round rodent eyes saying all. Tohru knew that Yuki didn't want her to apologise, and that he was very gratefully she found him and was now helping him.
OooOooO
"Tohru? What are you doing home so early?" Shigure asked, frowning in confusion.
Tohru held out her hand, showing Yuki curled up and asleep on her palm.
"He's sick. He has the stomach bug that's been going around." Tohru explained.
"Oh dear, he didn't transform in school, did he?" Shigure asked.
Tohru shook her head, "I found him in the streets, he'd collapsed. He was in too much pain to move, so I hugged him. And carried him home."
Shigure sighed, and Tohru felt slightly guilty.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't think of the anything else to do." Tohru said.
"Oh no, Tohru I'm not mad." Shigure said, "I just wish Yuki stayed home if he wasn't well."
"So do I" Tohru agreed.
OooOooO
Tohru stayed in the living room when Shigure was helping Yuki to bed. Tohru knew Yuki would transform back, and she didn't want to make it uncomfortable. She heard the explosion and knew he'd transformed.
"Why didn't you just say something, Yuki?" Shigure asked, handing the boy some clothes.
"I didn't think it would be this bad." Yuki answered, dressing himself and laying back in his bed.
"Well it doesn't matter now. Just stay in bed and rest up." Shigure said, exiting the room.
Shigure found Tohru in the kitchen, making Yuki an ice pack.
"You are too good, Tohru." He said.
"I just want to help, I hate to think he suffered all morning and didn't tell anyone." Tohru sighed.
"Thank you for being so concerned, but I can handle this now." Shigure assured. "You can go back to school..."
"No, I'll stay and help take care of Sohma." Tohru said, "School is important, but not at the cost of abandoning someone sick."
Shigure knew there was no way of convincing Tohru to go back to school, she did really want to help Yuki.
"Do you think you could watch Yuki whilst I go to the main house and see what Hatori recommends?" Shigure asked.
"Of course. I'll be sure to take extra good care of Sohma." Tohru said, smiling kindly.
Shigure smiled gratefully and headed to the door. "I'll be back as soon as possible."
Tohru waved goodbye to Shigure, before continuing to make Yuki's ice pack. Once it was finished she made her way up the stairs and towards Sohma's room. She politely knocked on the door, not wanting to barge in.
"Sohma, can I come in?"
"Yes, Ms Honda." Yuki's faint voice answered.
Tohru pushed open the door, sighing to see how pale Yuki was. He was lying in his bed, the blankets wrapped around his trembling body.
"I brought you an ice pack, this should help bring your fever down." Tohru explained.
"Thank you, Ms Honda." Yuki answered, taking the ice pack from her hand and placing it beneath his head.
"How are you feeling?" Tohru asked, kneeing down to be eye level with Yuki.
"I'm fine..."
Tohru sighed, "You don't have to lie, Sohma. It's ok to admit you're not feeling well, it will help me better care for you."
"But, I don't want to whine to you." Yuki said.
"Telling someone how you feel isn't whining. As I said, it will help me better understand how I can help you feel better, if I know what's wrong."
A faint smile spread across Yuki's face, despite feeling so miserable, Tohru's kindness lightened his spirit. However the grin was quickly removed from his face when another wave of pain and nausea came over him. He groaned and buried his head into his pillow.
"Aww, is your tummy still hurting?" Tohru asked.
Yuki groaned a response, Tohru sighing in sympathy.
"I think I may know something that might help." Tohru said, "I'll be back in a second."
Tohru exited Yuki's room and rushed downstairs. She remembered when she was younger, her mother would hover her a hot water bottle if she had a stomach ache.
Wait, a hot water bottle may be not such a good idea, Yuki does have a fever too.
Tohru looked through the kitchen cabinets, she found a small packet of heat packs. They were about the size of her palm. This will be better. She took one of the heat packs and snapped the little button within the liquid and it started heating up.
She made her way back to Yuki's room, politely knocking before entering.
"This should help settle your stomach, Sohma." Tohru said, handing Yuki the warm heating pad.
"You are too kind, Ms Honda." Yuki answered, gladly taking the heating pad from her, slipping it under his shirt and pressing it against his aching stomach.
"I would have made you a hot water bottle, but I didn't want to aggravate your fever." Tohru explained.
"The heating pad is fine, Ms Honda." Yuki said, "Thank you."
Tohru smiled kindly, "I'll leave you to get some sleep."
