Chapter One

Donna stepped out of her 1993 black Honda Accord , looking around at the new school that was built over the summer and last months of last year’s school year. Charming’s new high school. It was her last year of high school and she had hoped that the merging of two high schools in Charming wouldn’t affect her until she left for college, but unfortunately she didn’t. She was in a new building with more people than there was in her old high school and she didn’t know half of them. Charming was small, but not that small. She didn’t know everyone and she normally stuck only with her friends. She barely even knew everyone who was in her old high school.

Donna held her one book in her arm, the book that she was currently reading, clutching it to her test as she had her backpack over her shoulders. She locked her car door as she looked around. There was people starting to park beside her but she mostly ignored them. The school was loud, people meeting each other since last year, cheering and talking loudly in groups as the walked together and lounged on the steps and grass.

After a couple of minutes, she saw her friend Miranda standing with Abby, calling her name and waving her over, “Donna!” The brunette girl smiled a bit and made her way over to the girls who were talking together under a shaded spot made by the school. As she made her way over, her half inch black thick heels clicked slightly and her knee length black skirt brushed over her legs. Her parents assured her that a good impression should be made not just to her new teachers but to the new students she would see as well. So, her parents helped her pick out a office like outfit where she was in a skirt, nice shoes, and a white blouse with her hair hanging straight, although it was never curly anyway. She didn’t know why just today she should look nice. Most of what she owned was more casual, but her parents wouldn’t hear it.

As Donna made her way across the parking spot, she saw a more cars coming in quickly, loud laughing getting even louder. She sighed and waited until it was clear before walking across the lot. She heard some honks of the horns and she only prayed that they weren’t for her as she made her way to her friends. Both looked a lot more casual then her in jeans and t-shirts and sandals with their hair up.

“Was wondering where you were,” Miranda said as she smiled, poking at Donna’s arm.

“My parents needed to approve my outfit.” Donna explained, “and take pictures…”

“Oh yeah, sometimes I forget what your parents are like.” Miranda grinned before looking over the crowd of students, “there’s so many of them.”

“I’ve only seen a handful of people from our school last year.” Abby whispered, fixing the white glasses on her nose.

            “They’re so loud.” Donna commented.

“Well it is the start of the year.” Donna said, “they might calm down.”

“Do you think we could make our way to our lockers?” Abby asked, already nervous of going through the crowd.

“How do we know where our lockers are?” Donna asked.

“We go to the office and they give it to us, we sign a form and then get our locker combination.” Miranda answered, “I think they are set up at with our school identification number, which we will get our cards after we get our pictures. But the numbers here are separated by grade too. So at least we won’t be around any grade nines.”

“I’d almost prefer that.” Donna said, looking over the crowd again.

“Lets just go though. Get this done with. Maybe we will be placed near each other.” Miranda said.
