Chapter Two
Donna looked around the cafeteria, her tray in hand. She moved a bit to the side after some people pushed past her. She was still at the register to pay for the food and she was in the way. Moving to the side, she looked again, frowning nervously as she looked around at the large cafeteria. It was full of natural light as two sides of the room had large windows all along the wall. There were couches near the one side but mostly there were rectangle and circle tables with chairs for the students to sit on.
After the classes she had alone, Donna was nervously excited to be able to see her friends at lunch again. She had gotten lost a little going to each class as she was still trying to find her way around. She sat quietly and nervously in each classroom, being the only one at the tables and working quietly as the teachers introduced themselves and the course and what they were going to do in the semester. Donna would only recognize a handful of the students in the classes and even if she recognized them, she didn't know them well enough that they knew to sit beside her.
The school was in a divide. Students sticking with students they knew. In the cafeteria there were many faces, many loud voices, many laughters and she didn't recognize a lot of them. Scanning the room she would see faces of people from her old school, but she still didn't know them. Not well enough to sit beside them and eat lunch.
She didn't see Abbey or Miranda anywhere. Frowning, she looked down at her tray. She decided on getting a chicken Caesar wrap with a small side salad and a water bottle. After paying she quickly grabbed a plastic white fork and some napkins before searching for her friends. She assumed they would be here already. She took some time to go from her classroom up to her locker and get ready for the next classes after the lunch hour. She thought they would be faster, but apparently not. That or she couldn't see them.
Seeing that she was still in the way, Donna moved more towards the side and she went to a table nearby at the end. There were a group of three girls on one side but there was a significant space between them and Donna. Setting her brown tray of food down, she sat down as well. The girls looked over at her for a moment before going back to their conversation. Donna sighed and made one more lookout around the cafeteria before she grabbed her fork.
As she was about to eat her salad, a loud booming voice said behind her, "Hey!"
Although Donna recognized the voice, she jumped a little and dropped the salad and fork back into its container. She looked over her shoulder and smiled, smiling a little bit. Even though the person was a stranger, she still knew him.
"Hey, Opie right?" Donna asked.
He nodded, "yeah. Sorry if I scared you. Was just going past and I saw you sitting here."
She looked over a bit and saw a blonde boy behind him, laughing and talking with another group of boys. Donna looked up at Opie, "no it's fine."
"Not sitting alone are you?" Opie asked.
Donna shrugged, "I'm waiting on my friends."
Opie nodded and she heard another voice call out, "Opie, come on!" Donna looked over her shoulder to see the blonde boy looking at him and waiting, "you can romance a girl later man."
Opie rolled his eyes and said, "my friend Jax."
"Do you often go with people with weird names like yourself?" Donna asked.
