Finally, it was Monday! I couldn't believe it took this long to get here. I headed off to work as I did my every day routine at work. Schedules, answering calls... all that fun jazz. After the main part was all done, with no interruptions, I sent a text to Derek. Hoping he'd get it soon.

Hey. What's going on?

I set my phone aside as I organized some paperwork. The anticipation was killing me. I knew he worked later, but he had no problems texting me yesterday afternoon.

About an hour later, my phone went off.

Not much, cutie. What's going on with you?

My heart raced. I couldn't remember what he had looked like, but I do remember he was really cute. Let's try not to play desperate.

Work. Bored as hell. Why are you up so early?

Early? It was one in the afternoon.

I have to be to work in four hours. Really don't want to go, though.

I thought you worked nights?

Ranges from third shift to second shift. Depends on who is or isn't working.

Well, when is your next day off?

Tomorrow. What's up?

Oh, just wondering if you wanted to get some... coffee or something.

Hmm. I might have to take you up. Noon at that new shop... sound good?

Of course. See you then. <3

Did I just send a heart to him? Wow. That was... interesting.

"Ahem!" I heard someone say. I looked up and jumped to see Rose leaning over the counter. "Who are you talking to?"

"I wasn't talking to anyone," I said as I slipped my phone back into my pocket.

"Bullshit. I've seen that smile before. You were flirting! Who was it with?"

Shaking my head and clearing my throat, I blushed. "I don't know what you are talking about."

Rose slid behind the counter and sat next to me as she poked at my ribs. "I know that face. I've gave it so many times before. Tell me! Please? I swear I won't say anything..." She gave me big puppy dog eyes as I sighed.

"Fine. His name is Derek."

"Derek? Sounds like Douchebag to me."

"No... he's really sweet."

"How much do you know about him?"

"That he's cute," I said with a crooked smile.

"What about Jack?" She asked with a serious look on her face. "And your family and the fact that you're trying to prove your innocence...?"

"Well, yeah, I mean..." I sat and thought about it. I wasn't really in love with Jack as much as I use to be, but he still loved me. And I did love him still. But I couldn't just call off the date. Maybe I just need to talk to someone that's not involved. That must be it. I just blurted out the first thing that could come out of my mouth, "What would you say to someone if your hearts not in it? I just-- I don't get it. I love him, but I just don't feel like there's something there anymore..."

"Emily, you can't do this to Jack. I know that I'm crushing a relationship, but that bitch deserves it. Jack doesn't deserve this. You have to stop talking to him."

"I will. Just.. give me one day, one hour with him. Tomorrow at lunch?"

Rose shook her head. "Do I have to come along to make sure you can contain yourself?"
