"Dad? Dad..' She ran into the workshop, as he just looked up from his welding. "Whatcha working on?"

"Hey.. hey! You shouldn't be in here." Tony got up and walked towards her, a stern look on his face.

"Why? Why shouldn't I be?" The simple question left him stumped. He looked at Y/N, confusion and pride etched on his face. "You can't keep hiding things from me."

Tony sat down in his chair, as Y/N started fiddling with Dum-E. "Look, Dad, I know Uncle Obie's not exactly thrilled about all this, but I think it's really great."

"Yeah?" Tony looked up at his daughter.

"Yeah. I mean, you been conditioned your whole life into thinking everything is war, and now that you've experienced it firsthand, you're trying to do something to stop it.. and I think that's really inspirational."

Tony got up and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Thanks, kiddo." He kissed the top of her head.

"So, what are you working on?"

He smiled at her. "Ok, come on."

He showed her the suit that he'd been working on for the last few months. "Woah.." He looked at her as she awed over every detail. Tony went to organise his desk, but when he came back, he noticed Y/N's expression had changed.

"Hey, I know that look." He nudged her slightly with his elbow.

"What?"

"What's going on,?"

"Nothing!"

"Y/N.."

"Dad..."

"Now look who's hiding things."

He smirked inwardly as she crossed her arms, angry at him for pressing her. Eventually she sighed loudly. "Fine.. Are you happy with me?" She looked up at him expectingly.

"Happy? What.. what do you mean? What are you talking about?" Tony was so confused. What did she mean? Of course he was happy.

"I mean, like, do you think you would've been happier if you'd got a different kid?"

He stood silently, shocked and confused, as she looked at him, biting her lip, her eyes glossy.

He eventually got his bearings. "Alright, Y/N, I want to listen to me very, very carefully. That is complete and utter... God, Pepper would be so mad if she found out I spoke to you like this. Ok.. that's a load of bullshit, ok? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard come out of your mouth. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, you understand?" She nodded at his words. "Ya know, I was really worried about raising you. I thought you were gonna turn out like me."

"And?"

"You're nothing like me. You're you, and I couldn't be more proud." He hugged her tightly and kissed her face. "I got lucky. When they were handing out kids, they gave me the toughest one." He winked at her. "You ever say anything like that again and I'm gonna dock your allowance."

"But.. you don't give me an allowance."

"You're right. Maybe I should, so that I can dock it if you say anything stupid." He pushed her towards the door. "Go bother Hogan. I'm sure he's got nothing better to do right now."

"K.." She ran off, and started climbing the stairs. "Love you."

"Love you too." He shouted after her. He watched her run up the stairs, remembering a three-year-old, thinking about how tiny she'd been when he first brought her home. "Different kid.. ridiculous.." He muttered to himself as he went back to his work.
